He coordinated Operation Uranus (Stalingrad), Operation Iskra (the siege of Leningrad, 1943) and the Battle of Kursk (summer 1943).On January 18, 1943, Zhukov, the very first during the War, was awarded the title of Marshal of the Soviet Union. He accepted the complete surrender of Nazi Germany from German Field Marshal W. Von Keitel on May 8, 1945, in Berlin.

Rokossovsky was appointed as a commander of the Stalingrad Front. He also took part in developing Operation Uranus to destroy the enemy troops attacking Stalingrad.

Andrey Ivanovich was a Soviet general during World War II and Marshal of the Soviet Union. During the war, Yeryomenko commanded the Southeastern Front (later renamed the Stalingrad Front) during the Battle of Stalingrad in summer 1942 and planned the successful defense of the city. During the Soviet Winter Counteroffensive, Yeryomenko's army was a part of the highly successful Toropets–Kholm Offensive helping to create the Rzhev Salient, which became a major battlefield over the next 15 months. Later he commanded the armies responsible for the liberation of Western Hungary and Eastern Czechoslovakia in 1945.

Nikolai Fedorovich was appointed Chief of Staff of the Northwestern Front on June 30, 1941. Сhanging several posts, Lieutenant General Vatutin took command of the Voronezh Front in July 1942 and managed to stop the fascists, thereby depriving them of the possibility of transferring troops to Stalingrad and the Caucasus. During the War he made 330 combat sorties, conducted 120 air battles, personally shot down 62 enemy planes.The first enemy airplane - Junkers-87 - the future Marshal of Aviation shot down in 1943 at the Kursk Bulge. In August 1944 Ivan Kozhedub was appointed deputy commander of the 176th Guards Air Regiment, which was rearmed with new La-7 fighters. Kozhedub received an airplane with the flight number "27", on which he fought until the end of the war.
