UMNR

+ info

The unaccompanied minors (UMNR) program is mandatory for children between the ages of five and under 14 years. A child who has reached their 14th birthday and is traveling alone is no longer considered an unaccompanied minor and must be booked as an adult; however, customers may request additional assistance under these circumstances. In an effort to guarantee safety, JetBlue limits the number of unaccompanied minors booked on each flight to a total of three. Travel for unaccompanied minors may be booked on jetblue.com. When completing the online booking, a fee of $150 per-person, per-way will automatically be applied to the total price and must be paid at the time of booking.

Booking an unaccompanied minor

Drop-off and pick-up requirements

  • Photo identification is required for both parties who drop off and pick up the UMNR. UMNRs will not be accepted without the guardian's photo ID.
  • Age restriction for the adult picking up a UMNR is 18 years old.  They must have a valid ID and be listed in the Drop-off/Pick-up information.
  • Gate passes are issued based on TSA’s discretion and security recommendation. They are not guaranteed. You can check availability at the JetBlue airport ticket counter.
  • Drop-off and pick-up locations are available on your airport's information table.

Unaccompanied minor formThe Unaccompanied Minor Form is available online and must be filled out prior to travel. Please print three copies of the completed form for each flight and bring them with you to the airport. Be prepared to enter the name as it appears on the photo ID of the person dropping off and picking up the child.

  • The parent/guardian must have three copies of the UMNR form.
  • The parent/guardian must have their name, address and cell phone number documented on the UMNR’s reservation.
  • The parent/guardian may not leave the airport until the UMNR is on board the aircraft and the aircraft has departed. We ask that the parent/guardian remain at the gate until the aircraft has departed in case of a gate return or other delay. In the event of a gate return, a JetBlue crewmember will contact the parent/guardian so that he/she can meet the UMNR. Please note, the parent/guardian must request a gate pass at the airport ticket counter to pick up their minor at the departure gate.

pick-up information

  • The parent/guardian picking up the UMNR must arrive at the airport no later than 30 minutes prior to the flight’s scheduled arrival time.
  • The parent/guardian must have their name, address, and cell phone number documented on the UMNR’s reservation.

Drop-off INFORMATION

Every country requires special documentation, such as a notarized letter, stating that the unaccompanied minor has permission to fly alone. Customers are responsible for knowing the requirements prior to travel and providing the necessary documentation. At this time, unaccompanied minors are not able to travel on JetBlue flights to and from U.K./Europe.

International travel

Connecting flights and other airlines

Unaccompanied minors may only travel on nonstop flights. They will not be permitted on connecting flights or direct flights (a flight that makes a stop but does not change aircraft). JetBlue does not provide any escort for unaccompanied minors to flights connecting with other airlines. Customers will be responsible for any transfer of their unaccompanied minors from JetBlue to other airlines. Unaccompanied minors are not allowed on JetBlue bookings with other airlines (interline/codeshare flights).

Blue Basic fares do not allow a carry-on bag that can be placed in the overhead bin. However, unaccompanied minors are always allowed to bring a carry-on bag on board with them, even when booked on a Blue Basic fare.

Carry-on bags

Unaccompanied minors may not occupy Mint® or Even More® Space seats. As an additional safety precaution, they will be seated at the back of the aircraft so the inflight crew can assist them when needed. Seats ABC on the last row of the aircraft are reserved for unaccompanied minors.

Seating

  • Children between the ages of 2 and 13 may be escorted without unaccompanied minor status if the customer accompanying the child is at least 14 years of age or older.
  • If the child will be traveling with a customer on a separate reservation, the child's travel will need to be booked by contacting JetBlue to make sure the unaccompanied minor fee is waived. In addition, the $25 per-person service fee will be waived.
  • You will be asked to provide the accompanying customer's six-letter confirmation code for their reservation. Please have this information available prior to contacting JetBlue for booking assistance.
