South African history is linked to European colonization started by the Portuguese and continued by the Dutch who founded Cape Town in 1652. In 1797, during the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War, the United Kingdom occupied the Cape Colony, which was formally annexed in 1806.

NELSON MANDELAS CHILDHOOD

Nelson Mandela was born the 18th July 1918 in Mvezo. During his childhood he attended missionary schools. Mandela was then sent to middle and high school, always within the Methodist Church.

NELSON MANDELA AND THE UNIVERSITY

In 1939, Nelson Mandela enrolled in the only university for blacks in South Africa.The expulsion from the University arouses the fury of his adoptive father and Nelson soon runs away with his cousin and moves to Johannesburg.He becomes furious when he begins to see himself treated with contempt and racism by whites, until he is hired in a Jewish law firm, where he studies to obtain a law degree by correspondence.

NELSON MANDELAS LAW STUDIO

He enrolled in specialization and in 1952 and with his friend Tombo he opened the first law firm in all of South Africa managed by black people.

NELSON MANDELA

Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) was the first black president of the Republic of South Africa. His political activity was significant: he fought for the rights of blacks in South Africa all his life, even spending a total of 27 years in prison.
