the generations

The concept of generations has evolved over time, when we talk about it, we mean that is a group of individuals who, having lived in the same period of time and marked by the same events, partially share both the way of living the present (they have similar experiences) and the way of understanding the future (perspectives).

What is a Generation?

Millennials (Gen Y)1981-1996
Alpha Generation 2010-present
Generation X1965-1980
Baby Boomers1946-1964

Silent Generation1928-1945
Lost Generation1883-1900

Differents generations since 1900

Lost Generation (1883-1900)

The term “lost generation” came from a statement. “All of you young people who served in the war. . . . You are all a lost generation,” writer Gertrude Stein said to a young Ernest Hemingway in the years after World War I, according to his account years later in A Moveable Feast. The phrase “lost generation” described the disillusionment felt by many, especially intellectuals and creatives, after the death and carnage of World War I. The lost generation includes people born between 1883 and 1900, particularly the boys of '99, who turned 18 on the front lines of World War I.

What Is this Generation Known For? This generation’s childhood was marked by economic success and technological advancements such as the radio and telephone. This success was in stark contrast with their later years, which were marked by economic turmoil when the Great Depression hit as a result of the 1929 stock market crash.

The Greatest Generation” refers to the generation in the United States that came of age during the Great Depression and later fought in World War II.It includes people born from 1901 to 1927.

“Why Are They Called the Greatest Generation? “The Greatest Generation” got its name from a book by the same name. The book The Greatest Generation was written by Tom Brokaw, a journalist for NBC. In his book, Brokaw explores the stories and characteristics of this generation. The book expresses the belief that this generation is the greatest ever produced by society.

The term “Silent Generation” was first documented in a 1951 Time magazine article, which claimed that the most startling fact about this generation was its silence: “By comparison with the Flaming Youth of their fathers and mothers, today's younger generation is a still, small flame.” The generation’s “silent” behavior has been attributed to the difficult times in which they were born, as well as their coming of age during McCarthyism. Though the Silent Generation is known for traditionalist behavior and a desire to work within the system rather than to change it.The birth years given for the Silent Generation vary depending on who creates the evaluation or defines the term. An often-used range, however, is 1928–1945.

The "Baby Boomer Generation" refers to people who were born during the years following World War II.

What Is the Baby Boomer Generation Known For? Baby boomers got their name from a phenomenon known as the baby boom. This boom was a spike in birth rates after World War II. In the United States, around 3.4 million babies were born in 1946, more than ever before in United States history.

A Generation X or transitional is made up of people born between 1965 and 1980. These are individuals who on average have a rather high ecological consciousness compared to previous generations, since they had the first phase of life marked by environmental problems such as Chernobyl or the hole in the ozone layer.

GENERATION X 1965-1980

The term Generation X has been used in a couple earlier ways, but the primary use of the term now is used to define the generation following the Baby Boomers. The X was used to give the idea that the generation resisted being defined, with reference to the variable “x” rather than some other characteristic

GENERATION Y 1981-1996

Generation Y or Millennials consists of those born between 1981 and 1996. It is a generation that is beginning to be multicultural and immersed in digital technology. It includes those who, faced with job insecurity, have decided to start looking for opportunities abroad: they are the generation of the euro and European citizenship.

Zoomers have limited memory and experience of the world before the internet, before Google Maps, or before Facebook or smart phones. With a touch, swipe, or tap of the finger, zoomers can communicate with almost anyone, almost anywhere in the world.

GENERATION Z 1997-2009

Generation Z or networks is made up of those born between 1997 and 2012. They are generally present on all social networks, they are dynamic and lovers of change. They are also recognized for their strong individualistic orientation.

Because members of Generation Alpha are still children, they are under the influence of their parents, who are typically millennials. Millennials’ habitual use of social media, including to share photographs, videos, or stories of their children, means that much of Generation Alpha will be online from birth. They are the first generation to experience remote classrooms, tablet computers, and ubiquitous streaming services from early childhood. They will also likely be affected by the emerging use of artificial intelligence

Generation Alpha is the first generation to be named with a Greek alphabet letter instead of a letter from the Latin alphabet. It can be difficult to describe demographically because they are still being born. They will likely be a very large segment of the population.
