Rainforests are being cut down by humans. This is called deforestation. Millions of different species need rainforests to provide them with food, home and all the basic things they need. Therefore, if we cut down trees, these animals lose their homes and ultimately cannot survive.

What is happening to the rainforests across the world?

Rainforest

There are many different types of pollution, not only the pollution you can see on our beaches or in the rivers.Pollution is any type of damage caused to the water, air or atmosphere. For example, in city centres, there is a lot of air pollution caused by the smoke from cars.

Different types of pollution

Pollution

Wind energy is a renewable resource because it doesn't release waste materials into the atmosphere when being made.Wind turbines use the wind as an energy and it powers electrical products. It is an alternative to burning fossil fuels.

How can it help the environment?

Wind Energy

Global warming is the increase of the Earth's temperature. If the Earth is getting hotter, the ice is melting and there is less water.Do you know any examples of situations caused by global warming? For example, any natural disasters?

Global warming

Burning coal to make electricity or as another power source is damaging the Earth's atmosphere.More and more big companies are making the change to renewable energy sources because there is less and less coal available.

A fossil fuel

Coal

Burning fossils fuels has long been the way to produce energy all over the world. Burning fuels such as coal and oil produce negative gases and smoke that damages the Earth's atmosphere. This leads to burning holes in the atmosphere and increasing the greenhouse effect. We should change to renewable energy sources.

The burning of fossil fuels

Fossil fuels

The energy from the sun is processed to make electricity. In countries with many hours of sunlight, for example Spain, this is a great way to use solar energy as an energy source. It is very common nowadays to see many buildings or fields have solar panels and make use of the sun as a natural energy source.

Plastics in our oceans can damage marine life and their habitats. It is important to help protect our marine and acquatic life by recycling. It is also important to stop global warming because this makes our oceans hotter and causes whales and sharks for example, to move to different areas of the ocean. This is why we see whales come close to our beaches.

How can we help save marine life?

Marine life

Some rubbish and waste can be recycled but there is a lot that can't. This means it has to go somewhere. These places are called landfills and mean that the rubbish that can't be recycled is thrown into the Earth. It stays there forever as it can't be decomposed.

Polluting our earth

Landfill

Using plastics is one of the reasons for so much pollution and contamination. Not only do plastics cause damage to our oceans and other natural habitats, but also it is very difficult to dispose of plastic. We need to burn them to melt them and the gases that are produced negatively affect our atmosphere. We should try to use materials that are reusable.

A renewable energy collected by wind turbines and used to power electronics.Other examples of renewable energy include solar and hydro energy.

Wind energy...

fuels, such as gas, coal, and oil, that were formed underground from plant and animal remains millions of years ago. The problem with these fuels is that they cause pollution and damage to the Earth's atmosphere.

Fossil fuels...

animals and plants that live in our oceans, seas and rivers. Some are protected species and in danger of becoming extinct.Main reasons for this are pollution and damage to habitats.

Marine life...

the process of collecting and changing old paper, glass, plastic, etc. so that it can be used again.

Recycling...

unwanted matter or material of any type, especially what is left after useful substances or parts have been removed.an unnecessary or wrong use of money, substances, time, energy, abilities, etc.

Waste...

Solar power...

an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere (= mixture of gases around the earth), that is believed to be the cause of a gradual warming of the surface of the earth.

Greenhouse Effect...
