This looks potentially useful / of interest

First - a game

Follow the QR code to try out the activity; maybe try it a couple of times to see what happens when you get an answer wrong. When you've tried it, discuss these questions with a partner:

  • What were the missing words? How would you teach them?
  • Did you like the activity? Why / not? How long do you think it took to make?
  • What do you think about the quotation?

The future of online learning isn’t about accessibility: it’s about taking what we already know works offline and combining it with what you can only do online to create the most engaging experience. We’re all still searching for the right formula, but the ingredients will be the same as they’ve always been: Learning through exploration, thoughtfully designed for the right behaviors, with great teachers providing support (Friedman 2014 in Harasim 2017, p.98)

Let's try a different Genially activity - this time it's an escape room style activity. The link is on Aula - I've only added a link because this activity is best done on a computer. Make sure you follow all the instructions

How difficult were the questions? Which terms/concepts did you struggle with? What do you think about the activity itself? What did you like/dislike about it? How could you use it? How long do you think it took to make? What are some potential pitfalls with this type of activity?

Creating with Genially - your turn

Now it's your turn to make something. Choose a language exercise from a book you are teaching from (or something you're doing today) or from the Cutting Edge sample material we saw on Friday (week 5 Friday session). Create a Genial.ly account then go to the 'create' page. Try one of the gamification options. I recommend 'quiz' or 'game' because escape room activities take longer to create. Share it with us when you're finished.

For discussion:What do we think about Genially? What are its good points? What about its limitations?Do you think it's worth learning more about it? Would you use it? How would you evaluate it in terms of the quotation below?
