What are my responsibilities as a people Manager?

As a manager of people you are responsible for a lot of what you might call 'HR things' - things like absence management, managing conflict & resolution, managing annual leave and expenses and succession planning and recruitment.

Annual Leave & Expenses

Managing absence and sickness is all about ensuring safe returns to work for your colleagues. We want to ensure that when colleagues are ready, they can return to work safely and effectively. Everytime they return we should meet and chat with them to make sure they can return safely.

When your team changes your responsibility is to review what the needs in your team are for that role. Is the need the same or is a different role required. Work with your People Partner to build a role that fits what you need.

Every year you must hold a performance review with your team to review objectives and set goals for the following year. This will also involve create development plans and identifying training needs.

Time off is integral to wellbeing but making sure it is equally spread across the year for your team and well-balanced so as not too have too many people off at once is your responsibility. In your chinwags make sure you are checking in on booked annual leave and add the dates to your diary so you can plan effectively.
