There are 2 ways to say "you" in French. Vous is used when you are speaking with strangers, elderly people, or in a professional work setting. For example, out of politeness and respect, you would address your boss using the vous form.

Addressing Someone Formally

Vous is also used when addressing a group of people. When giving instructions or classroom commands, your French professor will address the class in the vous form.
