The English language

Almost 400 million people speak English as their first language in 67 countries, and it is a secondary official language in 27 countries.

The spread of the English language started in the 17th century, mostly due to the British Empire. Nowadays, it has established as one of the most spoken languages thanks to the American supremacy in economics and technology.

How many kinds of languages are there?

British Received Pronunciation (RP) is the official one, but it changes according to the area (i.e. northern vs southern US English).
