Quiz:Graphing Linear Functions

Hi, I'm out to dinner.I left a recipe in the fridge for you to make dinner.Follow all the steps.Good Luck!

Functions can be written in function notation. The notation f(x) is read as “f of x.” This means that there is a function called f that has values dependent on x. Therefore, f(x) is the dependent (output values). x is the independent (input values) Examples of equations in function notation: f(x) = 5x + 2 , where f(x) is the output and x is the input. h(x) = x - 4 , where h(x) is the output and x is the input.

You can rewrite any equation in function notation. Although this notation should only be used for functions. Example: y=8.75x can be written as f(x)=8.75x Determine which (only one)statement is TRUE

f(x) is the input value for a function named f, whose input is x.

f(x) is the output value for a function named f, whose input is y.

f(x) is the output value for a function named f, whose input is x.

The function that could represent the table above, where x represents the diameter in inches and f(x) represents the age in years. What does the notation f(4.47)=18 represent in terms of the red oak tree?

18 times the diameter of the red oak tree gives the age of the tree (4.47 years old)

When the diameter of the red oak tree is 4.47 inches, the tree is 18 years old.

When the diameter of the red oak tree is 18 inches, the tree is 4.47 years old.

20 times the diameter of the red oak tree gives the age of the tree (4.47 years old)

Match the function y=3/4x+12 written in standard notation with the same function written in function notation

f(x)=3/4x+12

f(x)=3x-12

Match the function y=-2x-6 written in standard notation with the same function written in function notation

f(x)=-2x-6

f(x)=2x+6

Match the function y=4/3x-16 written in standard notation with the same function written in function notation

f(x)=-4/3x-16

f(x)=3/4x+16

Given that f(x)=-3/2x+4, evaluate the function using 2 as avalue for xHint: replace 2 for x and remove 2 from the fraction. Then add.
