Act 4 Scene 4
- Analyse Hamlet's Soulilique in Act 4 Scene 4.
Due Now
Claudius’s love for Gertrude may be sincere, but it also seems likely that he married her as a strategic move, to help him win the throne away from Hamlet after the death of the king.
Claudius is a corrupt politician whose main weapon is his ability to manipulate others through his skillful use of language.
Claudius is bent upon maintaining his own power.

Hamlet is saying that God did not give humanity the ability to think, to look to the past and future and reflect on what has been and what could be, just for us to waste it. To fust literally means to decay. Hamlet praises human knowledge and reason, calling it "god-like", and warns that if unused it will eventually die and rot away.
