Digital maturity

Istituto Istruzione Secondaria Superiore “ Enrico Fermi” - Lecce aims to promote secure environments when implementing online methods, and aim to apply motivating methods, tools and resources, through coding and programming in order to achieve the digital maturity. The development of educational technologies, the use of the Internet and mobile devices to become a part of school life, has led to an increase in cyberbullying cases. The Internet, cell phones and other means of communication can lead young people to engage in undesirable social activities, including transmitting aggressive and harmful messages.

New technologies...

Innovative approaches and applications in education, especially the use of web 2.0 tools, professional development programs for teachers and technology integration are in change and transformation depending on the use of today's technological tools by new generations.Hence the need: - To create awareness of web 2.0 tools, which is an innovative approach  -To enable teachers to use the internet and web 2.0 tools  To be able to see the obstacles related to the use of web 2.0 tools in learning environments  -To know which web 2.0 tools can be preferred by the teachers on the basis of branches in order to prepare and develop the educational materials.

Growing popularity of playing video games

Eleven teachers from the IISS «Fermi» in Lecce received training on the topic of video games and their infinite possibilities in the educational world. The growing popularity of video games use in education is based on the belief that video games can:

  • increase student engagement
  • be used as rich multimodal narrative texts
  • promote critical thinking and cognitive skills.
Video games have the potential to be valuable educational tools. Their immersive and interactive nature can engage students in ways that traditional teaching methods often fail to do. From strengthening problem-solving skills to promoting critical thinking and teamwork, video games offer endless possibilities within the field of education. Moreover, they can make learning enjoyable, turning topics that may seem challenging into exciting challenges. By harnessing the educational potential of video games, teachers can use a new and dynamic approach to engage and inspire students in their learning processes.

What is "Scratch?"

The idea of the training was for participants to learn the fundamental principles of programming and integrate them into their teaching methodologies. Furthermore, the main focus of the training was on online tools such as Scratch, which make it possible to create video games easily, simply and intuitively. In fact, Scratch is a visual programming environment that does not require knowledge of the more complicated structured constructs typical of programming languages. Therefore It can also be used byeveryone: children, teenagers, students but above all teachers who are approaching the fascinating world of programming for the first time.
