How do You Value Diversity Versus Textbook or Common Stigmas?

Be open to your students' backgrounds and cultures. Cultures should not be intentionally ignored.

Holidays outside of traditional ones in the States are not commonly taught about nor revered in class.

School textbooks could be outdated, containing hurtful content that hinders the students' accessibility to actual history.

The world has its thoughts about every culture, including some hurtful stereotypes. It is hard to avoid it, especially now with everything online.

It is common for students who aren't taught about other backgrounds to judge and ridicule other students of different cultures.

Students may feel unsafe from the materials presented in class, thinking their culture is something to be ashamed of.

Presentation of all cultures is important, but sometimes even what is seemingly accurate information can turn into a derogatory and hurtful stigma from indifferent sources.
