Message from Mr. Nelson

To the Students of Wootton High School,You have made it through the first semester. Your hard work has paid off as you have completed half a year of learning. It is time to take a moment to reflect on what you have accomplished. With the start of a new semester comes a fresh opportunity for growth, learning, and achievement. As your principal, I encourage you to approach this semester with enthusiasm, and determination where you are putting the most into your studies. I have all the confidence in you.As we navigate through this semester together, remember that success is not just measured by grades or accomplishments, but also by the personal and intellectual growth you experience along the way. It is about what pushes you to grow. Embrace each new lesson, challenge, and experience with an open mind and a willingness to learn.Have a great semester 2, Patriots!Mr. Nelson

MCPS Grading Policy Update

The MCPS Grading Policy is changing for Semester 2. Heres's the biggest change for students:Missing Work: A grade of zero in All Tasks will be given only after one documented communication attempt with the caregiver or if the student committed academic dishonesty. A zero can be given in the practice/prep category without documented communication. Grades of 0% and 50% for a particular assignment must be applied consistently for all students in a given course.

Daily class attendance matters. Our school-wide expectation is that students are ON TIME and IN CLASSEVERY DAY!

MCPS Attendance Policy Updates

For an excused absence, please make sure to turn in a signed note from a caregiver within three days of the absence. A doctor's note is required for absences of four consecutive days or more. For a planned absence, please notify your teachers in advance to arrange to make-up assignments.

Attendance Procedures

Advisory - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

The purpose of advisory is to support students’ social and emotional needs through a variety of activities including:

  • relationship building
  • organizational skills
  • time within the school day to work on assignments
  • opportunities to meet with teachers to get extra help

Wootton HS Advisory Expectations

During Advisory, students may NOT…

  • go outside
  • leave campus or the building
  • go in the cafeteria
  • go in the gym and auditorium without adult supervision

Hallway Expectations

Students must have a pass to be in the hallway during class time. Before leaving the room, unless instructed otherwise, students should communicate with their teacher about why they are leaving and the length of time they will be gone. Lanyard passes should be used for bathroom and water breaks only. Passes to other areas in the building (ex. Counseling, Main Office, etc.) require a general use written pass.
