- Veteran mentors have success asking students to turn in a printed version of their “my grades” every week. There is a pacing guide in Brightspace, to be able to keep an eye on your student’s progress.
- Visit the Michigan Virtual Mentor Resources Website https://michiganvirtual.org/professionals/mentors/ for resources and helpful tips.
- Scroll down on the main page to find examples of student contracts that you can print off and use or alter to suit your own needs in your building.
- Reference the links to the right for great resources such as a video that outlines the role of the mentor and the role of the student.
- Final grade certificates can be printed in the SLP website.
- Remember that you do not have to be experts in the content area, direct students to contact their online instructor for help with the content. For any technical help, please contact the Michigan Virtual School HELP Desk immediately by sending an email to: customercare@michiganvirtual.org or calling: 888.889.2840.
- Attend your online class every day for at least one hour per day Monday through Friday.

- Complete assignments in order
- Stay in line with your personalized pacing guide in the SLP
- Ask questions of me immediately if you need assistance by sending me a message in the SLP

- Follow all policies including Plagiarism, Redoing Assignments/Tests/Quizzes.
- Be online to answer any messages Monday through Friday during school days. I will not be online at the same time that you are, but will answer your questions within 24 hours Monday through Friday.
- Grade your submitted assignments within 72 hours.
- Send out progress reports monthly during the term to mentor teachers, students, and guardians.
- The textbook is completely online. You will access this from the Brightspace lesson you are currently on. To log on, go to: http://slp.michiganvirtual.org. Your username and password was (or will be) provided to your school or homeschool mentor during the enrollment process. Course start and end dates will depend onthe specific school & student, so check with mentor and SLP for this information! Mentors use the Pacing guide advice widget in SLP, ask me if you need help!
- To begin your work: On Brightspace complete the orientation on the homepage where it says "Student Orientation to Online Learning". Note: If you have done this for another class you don't have to do this part!
- To get started with class go to your brightspace class and click "start here".
- Retakes for assignments and assessments are rare, but reach out to me if you have an issue. Computer issues will arise but make sure when you start a timed assignment finish it right then! Expect if you get a retake that you will be submitting to me a copy of your notes that you took in order to receive this retake, but note that there are not unlimited retakes.
- At Michigan Virtual we believe in students demonstrating mastery. Here is our policy:
- Students may resubmit assignments to demonstrate mastery. Mastery is defined as earning 80% or better.
- Assignments must be resubmitted within two weeks of the day it was graded.
- Tests and quizzes are NOT part of the resubmission policy.
- Resubmissions of assignments are not available in the last week of the term without documented teacher approval (does not apply to verifiable technical issues).
- There is no login needed for an online textbook and no access codes. The final exam DOES have a password. Mentors should know where to find this, or they can reach out to me.

Welcome to Math in the Workplace!
You have now entered the Michigan Virtual doors of online learning. This experience will better prepare you for the future by giving you access to learning anytime, anywhere, at your convenience. Below you will find a snapshot of important information you will need this term. You can find more details, including a detailed syllabus and acceptable use policy, in the course homepage on the right side. Note: There is no final exam for this class, only a final presentation!
