THE DETRIMENTAL IMPACT
GLOBAL WARMING
- Global warming caused by human behavior will have the most dramatic impact on the Earth and the Earth's systems.
Hypothesis
- Global warming is the effect of the Earth's temperatures warming over a long time.
- National Geographic Society. (2023, October 19). Global warming. Education. https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/global-warming/
Definition
Global warming has the ability to cause an increase in the rate of weathering of rocks. Along with this it also can cause changes in the ion content derived from chemical weathering of rocks in riverine transport.
Global Warming: The Impact on Earth's Minerals and Rocks
- Global warming is impacting the natural processes of the Earth and its systems.
- Global warming has many effects on Earth's natural processes and its systems.
- Hotter temperatures
- More severe storms
- Increased drought
- A warming, rising ocean
- UN sources (Ed.). (n.d.). Causes and Effects of Climate Change. EPA.
Impact on Natural processes of the Earth and its systems
- Global Warming affects Earth's water and water systems in a few different ways.
- Threatens the quality of source water by increasing runoff pollutants and decreased water availability due to drought and saltwater intrusions.
- Effects on overall efforts to maintain water quality.
- (Climate Adaptation and Source Water Impacts updated 2024)
Global Warming's Impact on the Natural Processes of Earth's Water and Water System
- What are the long-term effects of climate change?. What are the long-term effects of climate change? | U.S. Geological Survey. (n.d.). https://www.usgs.gov/faqs/what-are-long-term-effects-climate-change#:~:text=Scientists%20have%20predicted%20that%20long,resources%20in%20semi%2Darid%20regions.
- Long-term effects of global warming may be different upon regions but still just as detrimental.
- North America:
- Decreasing snow in western mountains.
- 5-20% increase in yields of rain-fed agriculture.
- Increased frequency, duration, and intensity of heat waves
- Latin America:
- Risk of biodiversity
- Changes in water availability for humans
- Europe:
- Inland flash floods
- Coastal flooding
- Increased erosion
- Species losses
What are the Long-Term Consequences to the Earth as a result of Global Warming?
Environmental Protection Agency. (n.d.). EPA. https://www.epa.gov/climateimpacts/climate-change-impacts-ocean-and-marine-resources
- Changes in Oceans Ecosystems
- Climate changes to the ocean that affect the physical and chemical makeup can have major impacts on marine ecosystems.
- Water temperature effects different species
- Acidification affects the ability to make shells for certain species
- low oxygen levels can contribute to "dead zones"
- Raising water temperatures, acidification, and low oxygen can create extreme marine events
- Coral bleaching
- dead zones
- marine heat waves
- Rising water temperatures are causing arctic ice to melt resulting in
- sea levels increasing, coastal flooding, harm to artic species.
How does Global Warming impact the natural processes of Earth's oceans and ocean systems?
- Global warming is causing the Earth's Atmosphere to warm up and increase in tempature.
- Fetzer states the following information from AIRS data, “We see increases in Arctic water vapor levels,” he said. “The Arctic atmosphere is becoming more moist, adding to its warming, and the ocean is becoming more ice-free."

How Does Global Warming Impact the Natural Processes of the Earth's Atmosphere and Atmospheric systems?
- What are some of the most viable solutions to global warming?
- Reduce the use of fossil fuels by witching to energy sources such as solor or wind. This is called "Clean Energy"
- Reduce Emissions by changing transportation habits even it it means carpooling or bike or walking if possible. It will lower the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
- Remove Carbon Dioxide from the air. This can be done by planting new forsts. or restoring old ones

Viable Solutions!
- What solutions do I propose based on what I have learned?
- Based on what I have learned about global warming I understand that it is detrimental to our Earth and her system. The earth needs our help. I propose to make sure my personal vehicle is always up to emissions standards. I also propose to drive less if at all possible. lastly, i plan to look into upgrading my newly purchased home to solar panels for energy to reduce the usage of fossil fules along with plant some new trees in my yard.
Proposed Solutions!
- Summary
- Global warming is one of the most detrimental things to Earth that humans are causing. Global warming has several negative effects on Earth. Impacts on Earth's minerals and rocks as described in slide 4, Harm to Earth's water and water systems as described in slide 6, all the way to affecting the atmospheric systems and overall temperature of Earth. These things may not seem like huge ordeals now but over time can drastically change Earth in negative ways. The artic is melting, Flooding is increasing in some parts and drought in others, our weather is becoming harder to predict and no longer in a consistent pattern. Food and water for human consumption is harder to come by and hurricanes and earthquakes are more likely all do to the effects of global warming mainly caused by humans. While global warming can not be stopped we as people can change our ways to slow it down LETS DO BETTER! PROTECT THE EARTH!
