INDEX

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the world's best plan to build a better world for people and our planet by 2030. Adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, the SDGs are call for action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the enviroment

What is the 2030 agenda?

Article 2 aims to and hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustanuible agricolture. Although the situation has improved in many countries, there are many people around the world who suffer from hunger or malnutrition.

WHAT IS THE ARTICLE 2 ABOUT?

There are 828 million people suffering from hunger in the world, the 10% of the global population. Climate change, economic crises, armed conflicts, the COVID-19 pandemic: the persistent global food crisis can be traced back to a series of causes and factors which, takes individually, are already putting populations to the test. The food emergency makes the lives of these people more precarious, reducing it to a fight for survival.

WHAT IS THE GLOBAL IMPACT OF HUNGER?

Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan and Yemen are the countries where hunger is most severe. The conflict remains the primary cause of hunger around the world, with the effects of the war in Ukraine, that agravate the hunger crisis for the dramatic increase of price of food, fuel and fertilizers. Also the extreme weather conditions, intensified by the climate crisis, such as droughts and cyclones, are also having a disastrous impact, destroying crops. The worst drought is hitting East Africa right now.

wHICH PARTS OF THE WORLD ARE MOST AT RISK?

On average, every year around the world, 1 million children under the age 5 die for malnutrition. To date, over 13.5 million girls and boys under the age 5 are in danger of dying for a severe malnutrition. A child suffering from severe malnutrition, the deadliest form of hunger, is nine times more likely to die than a healthy child. Severe malnutrition harms children's health. If left untreated, it puts their lives in danger and damages the possibility of future life.

WHAT IMPACT DOES HUNGER HAVE ON CHILDREN?

In developing regions, 66 million children of primary school age go to school hungry, with 23 million only in Africa. For this reason, the goal n.2 of the agenda aims to put an end to all forms of malnutrition by 2030; reach the agreed goalsat international level against stunting growth by 2025; statisfy the nutritional needs of adolescent girls, pregnant and breastfeeding women and older people

WHAT SPECIFIC REFERENCES TO CHILDREN ARE MADE IN THE TARGETS OF SDG2?

Yes, infact in our country, child malnutrition is an increasingly widespread phenomenon. Child malnutrition represents one of the major public health problems in the world; it is a complex phenomenon, which has two faces: on the one hand, that of malnutrition and on the other, that of obesity. in Italy emerge that children at risk of overweight and obesity live mostly in the south, particularly in Molise, Campania and Calabria. As regards eating habits in Italy, 8% of children skip breakfast and 33% have it inadequate, 53% have too abundant a snack and 20% of parents declare that their children do not consume fruit and vegetables every day, while during the day 36% consume carbonated sugary drinks every day.

DO YOU THINK THAT HUNGER AND/OR MALNUTRITION CAN BE PROBLEMS IN YOUR NATIONAL COMMUNITY?

In Italy there are many organizations that fight against world hunger. One of these is the World Food Program (WFP), whose headquarters are in Rome: it is the principal humanitarian organization and United Nations agency committed to saving and improving lives, providing food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve their nutrition and build resilience.

WHAT INIZIATIVES OR ORGANIZATIONS DO YOU KNOW IN ITALY THAT ARE ENGAGED IN THE FIGHT AGAINST HUNGER?

In your daily life you can also do something concrete to fight world hunger:-reduce food waste at home; -buy seasonal products and from local producers; -donate what you don't use to associations that help those; -support the fair market; -supports associations that support developing countries.
