The key is an object with great symbolism, associated with power, protection and freedom, because it has the capacity to open and close doors, metaphorically speaking. How can we show someone how to find the key to their problems?

CREDITS

Suggest they approach the problems that arise calmly, trying to observe them from a distance, as objectively as possible, evaluating the feasible solutions, and asking for help when necessary.

Tell them that most of the time problems end up solving themselves. That it isn’t worth worrying or “overthinking” things. The people around us will help us if we need it.

Recommend that they think about the problem over and over again; only in this way is it possible to find the real solution. There are people who are against giving too much thought to things, but it is the only way to do an in-depth analysis.

In the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, lots of keys with wings appear flying. Using their skills, applied in other fields, the group of friends must choose the right key to continue advancing in their mission and find the philosopher’s stone. How can we read this scene?

CREDITS

There are a thousand options for resolving each problem; we should chase the one that is the most eye-catching, because, as with jewellery and precious stones, it will surely be the best.

If you are good at a sport, like Harry Potter is at quidditch, you are more likely to find the right solution. This gives you greater skill, agility and better perspectives to solve any problem.

Often, we can reach the solution to our problems by using creativity and recognising our own abilities, as well as by counting on the help of those around us.

Some couples put locked padlocks with their names on places like bridge railings, and then throw the key into the river as a ritual to seal their love. “Love padlocks” are a modern custom, popularised through social media and following a book by Federico Moccia: I Want You. What negative aspects of this custom have some psychologists highlighted?

CREDITS

The locked padlock can be seen as a sign of the absence of freedom, as a means of controlling and chaining, things that should not be related to romantic relationships. In fact, there is a movement against love padlocks called Unlock Your Love.

The only negative thing about this custom is that it poses a risk to bridges and other architectural elements where the padlocks are left: the enormous weight causes the infrastructure to give way and becomes a real danger.

In reality, no one has questioned this custom since it is seen as a romantic act motivated by the love between two people and their desire to be together forever or for a long time. Without a doubt, this is something positive.

What meaning can the following phrase have? "Don’t give up. Remember, it’s always the last key on the key ring that opens the door”, which appeared in Manuscript Found in Accra, by Paulo Coelho?

CREDITS

Often, we don’t find the solution to our problems the first time. Despite our mistakes, we have to keep trying. In fact, mistakes are a learning path.

It's similar to Murphy's Law: anything that can go wrong will go wrong. So it’s normal that we never find the right key the first time; but that doesn’t mean we should be discouraged.

It can be tiring to have to try all the keys on a key ring to open a door or find a solution; that’s why it is likely that, on many occasions, we end up abandoning our purpose.

What is a film soundtrack? And what parallel can we find when talking about the soundtrack of a life?

A film soundtrack is the music that appears in it, whether incidental (what accompanies a scene) or film music (composed specifically for the film). When we talk about the soundtrack of life, as a metaphor, we are referring to the music that accompanies us in our daily lives.

A film soundtrack is the music that appears in it, whether incidental (what accompanies a scene) or film music (composed specifically for the film). When we talk about the soundtrack of life, as a metaphor, we are referring to the music that accompanies us in our daily lives.

A film soundtrack is the music composed especially for it; that is, film music. So if we take it to the field of metaphor, we can say that the soundtrack of a life is “the music” that we ourselves create; that is, the way we build our lives.

To achieve greater awareness of the “soundtrack” of our life and live it fully, what would you recommend to children and teenagers?

To try to live every moment with mindfulness. That is, paying attention to the people, the events... that are close to us as a way of enjoying the moment and connecting with everything around us.

Because of their mental development, it is difficult for children to focus on the moment and make them understand that the ideal thing is to enjoy what they are doing at any given time.

Mindfulness can be worked on with some children, but especially with teenagers. It is a very efficient study technique: it lets you assimilate complex content in a simple way.

The magnifying glass has always been a symbol of search. In personal development, it is important to learn to look for and recognise one's own abilities as a form of self-knowledge. What purpose can this serve for children and young people?

Knowing and promoting their abilities lets children and young people develop happily.

Knowing what they are good at and what they are not good at can be helpful, for example, when choosing an extracurricular activity. It is always advisable to choose what they aren’t so good at to develop new skills.

It is a way of starting to prepare for the future, for example, by choosing a specific educational route suitable for each person.

When we talk about looking for one's own abilities, we are not only referring to the ability to develop certain activities with more or less success, but we are also talking about psychosocial and socio-emotional skills. This includes:

Receiving a strict education, which teaches children from early childhood what is good and what isn’t. In this way, they are given a guide to develop their psychosocial and socio-emotional skills efficiently.

Always being happy, seeing the positive side of life. Having an innate ability to make friends and carry out successfully, or at least with a good attitude, all the activities that arise.

Knowing how to manage one's own emotions, having the ability to make decisions, developing creative thinking and critical thinking, relating to others in a way that is healthy for oneself and for the other person (showing assertiveness, empathy etc.).

An educational psychologist did the following exercise with her students: she invited them to take a portrait of the most important person in the class out of a box and observe it. Inside the box was a mirror. What did the educational psychologist intend with this exercise?

CREDITS

To show that, to begin with, the most important person in a group is oneself; and that, furthermore, all people are equally important in a group.

It is a game to break the ice in the group. After taking out the mirror, everyone laughs and it is easier to address topics like self-esteem.

That before criticizing others we should first look at the mistakes we make.

Nowadays, we follow influencers who show us ‘the perfect way’ of doing many things on social media. What should we help children who start using social media at a very young age understand?

CREDITS

Influencers show only a part of their reality, which is often faked, distorted or made up. Wanting to follow them in everything or in some things can generate a lot of frustration, among other things.

Influencers are perfect people and we are not all the same. Even if we do everything possible to look like them, we will never have their looks, their voice, their friends, their money etc.

Influencers are a model and it is okay to do everything in our power to look like them.

Both on and off social media, more and more children and teenagers are looking for the community's approval and receiving a lot of praise or likes. Some psychology professionals say that praising a child excessively or exaggeratedly can be counterproductive because...

...if we later stop recognising their worth, they become easily discouraged.

CREDITS

...if they later do not meet the expectations created (based on unfounded comments), they can feel a lot of frustration.

...they can become overly proud and vain.
