In the early years of Christianity people didn't celebrate Christmas.

Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ.

On the 25th of December the pagans of Rome celebrated the festival of Saturnalia in the honor of god Saturn.

Emperor Constantine officially declared the birth ofChrist to be on the 25th of December.

To find the presents we need to travel in time.First stop is the past.

Watch the video (till 2:04) and choose the FALSE statement.

Dear friend,There are no presents here. Maybe they are in the future. I travelled there a few days ago. Let's go and check there.Santa Claus

The future

In the future, peoplewill use their holograms to have Christmas dinner together; won't feel the taste of food without touching it;will ask robots to cook Christmas meals for them; will use teleports for travelling in time; will go to the forest to get a real Christmas tree; will have artificial or digital Christmas trees; won't give presents to their family members and friends.

Look at the illustration below. What do you think it shows? It's correct! We are in the future.Read the predictions about Christmas and say which you agree with.

Read Santa's message

Dear friend,There are no presents here either. They should be in the present. Let's check.Santa Claus

One of the most popular Spanish traditions is to eat twelve grapes on New Year's night just before midnight. The Spanish believe that if they eat these grapes in the 12 strikes before 12 o'clock they will have good luck in the new year. Each grape means one lucky month of the coming year. On that night in big cities like Madrid and Barcelona, people gather in groups in main squares to eat their grapes together. Others stay at home with friends and family and watch the event on TV eating their lucky grapes. Another exciting Spanish Christmas tradition is to play the lottery. Almost every person in Spain takes part in the National Lottery at Christmas time. It's called the fat lottery because it is the biggest in the world. The prize is around 2 billion euros! The history of the lottery is over 200 years and it takes place every year.

In Brazil, there is a tradition to wear white clothes for good luck and peace in the next year. Brazilians believe that the colour of the clothes on New Year's Eve can change the following year. So, some people wear yellow clothes for money, pink clothes for love, and orange clothes for happiness. It is also important to wear only new clothes on New Year's night. Another interesting Brazilian tradition is to jump over waves. You can see a lot of people walking to the beach on that night. Every time a wave comes in, they jump up once. And then another comes, and they jump up again. And every time they jump up, they make a wish. They do it seven times. Brazilians think that there are special foods you should eat on that night. This food can bring you good luck for the following year. Lentils, pomegranates, and grapes are always on the New Year's table.

In Colombia, on Christmas Eve people take their empty suitcases and run fast around the place where they live. They believe that if they follow that tradition, they will have a lot of trips in the new year. Another interesting Colombian tradition is about money. If you want to have a lot of money in the coming year you should keep cash in your hand or in a pocket when the clock strikes 12. You also need to keep around you all the things you want to have next year. One more Colombian tradition is to clean your house on the 31st of December. People clean their houses on the final day of the year to leave all bad thoughts and bad memories from the past year. Colombians believe that it helps them to start the New Year with good thoughts.

Merry Christmas!

I have got a big problem. I can't find the presents I prepared for all the children on our planet. Yesterday I travelled to Lapland and I think I left the presents there. I need your help. Go to Lapland and find the presents. Here is my magic sleigh for you. Santa Claus

Dear friend,

Hi Santa! I'm so sorry that I took the presents. I just wanted all the children to be happy at Christmas. Some time ago I read about a far away planet and you know what? They didn't have their Santa there. The next moment I wanted to tell you about it. But you were away. I didn't have time to wait for you, so ... you already know what happened next. Look, now all the children on this planet are happy too!
