FEMINISM

The critical perspective of feminism is a topic that has always interested me, ever since I was a little girl. However, this module was very well structured, and not only defined the main characteristics of all feminist movements, but also their history, their differences and the future of feminism. It was very clear to me how feminism has evolved and which problems it has adopted, as well as the interconnections between types of feminism (like eco-feminism or de-colonial feminism).

ECO-PHILOSOPHY

While I have definitely studied the topic of ecology before, I had never before heard about the term eco-philosophy and its branches, such as deep ecology and shallow ecology. Learning about these, about their differences and main interests, and about how to identify each was very interesting and left me with a desire to investigate more. So much so, that our final collaborative investigation related to this topic and how it is present in Mexican politics.

MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT

This entire topic related to me deeply, as I am a communications major with a cinematography minor. In this section, I was able to deeply explore the changes and evolution in media and entertainment, as well as information relating to the current streaming, gaming and entertainment markets worldwide. Something that pleased me, for example, was the Deloittle article where it claimed that «SVOD companies have relied on the innate emotional and intellectual value of their stories to engage audiences and monetize their attention.» I was happy to hear that SVOD companies do not care merely for easily manufactured stories, but rather, they are evolving to prioritize the said emotional and intellectual value of their stories, something that gives me great satisfaction. After all, I study communications in order to do just that: create valuable stories that can shape consumers and humanize the world.

NEWS & DIGITAL PLATFORMS

This was also a very fascinating topic, as it truly expanded my horizons as to how digital platforms operate, how they monetize their content, and how they relate to users online. Before this, I had a vague idea about social media, news companies and digital corporations in general. After reading the articles and topics under this module, I understood completely just how vast and complex the digital world is.
