FEC Strasbourg

The FEC is a non-profit association under local law (Alsace-Moselle) which was created on April 7, 1921.

Located in a building built in 1598 on the Place Saint Etienne.

Brother MÉDARD (WILLER Georges)Founder of the FEC

In fact, there are initially both young delinquents, students and high school students who attend the FEC. But this organization was quickly abandoned by Brother Médard , who wanted to simplify the organization of the FEC: a hostel only welcoming young students. He gradually reorganized the home, concentrating the activity on the students, and only these remained in 1937. But the Second World War arrived , and the FEC was confiscated by the Nazi occupiers in August 1940. They seized the furniture and ordered Brother Médard and the students to leave the premises. Different functions then followed for the buiding, which was first used by the Wehrmacht for administrative purposes and then became a war museum to the glory of the Reich . At the Liberation , there was a time invested by the French Forces of the Interior . After the occupation, when Brother Médard was able to return to the FEC at the end of 1944, he found it stripped of absolutely all its furniture. But this does not discourage him and he seeks by all means to recover as much as possible. Very quickly the hostel can welcome students again. Modernization followed with the organization of heated rooms with running water.

History

Committing to unite people

The FEC aims to offer students a framework and means of education and social, cultural, political and religious responsibility. It aims to protect student youth and ensure their material and moral well-being. It offers students, whatever their social, national or religious origin, an open and critical intellectual and spiritual training. Through its influence and all appropriate means, it contributes to forging and disseminating European humanism and the social culture which characterize all of its activities.
