The part ofWomen

There are, of course, many exceptions to this rule, but men must be the head of the household.

Men generally work on the farm, with women helping from time to time, if necessary. Men are also mainly in charge of financial matters

The part of Men

The woodworking trades also constitute the largest group of Amish businesses. Amish stores produce an astonishing variety of products and services such as crafts, repair work, furniture building, hardware sales, clothing sales, quilts, etc. Everything is handmade.

Agriculture and other trades

Agriculture:

Farming is considered a way of life rooted in Scripture, blessed by God, and passed down from generation to generation by Amish ancestors. Horses are a hallmark of the Amish and their agriculture, used to plow, cultivate, and harvest crops.

Both men and women accept these roles as given to them by God, the mindset being that women are not inferior to men, but subordinate.

Home, school, farm, and workplace are linked by family for the Amish of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This type of economic function, where the family and its members work as a unit within the supportive Amish community, creates a strong bond and gives each worker a clear and vital "place" through the work he or she does.
