Four principles of inspection

  • ISI will contextualize and test evidence to come to valid and reasonable conclusions (triangulation)
  • ISI will gather evidence from a plethora of sources
  • ISI will conside the typicality of the school they inspect through triangulation

Triangulation and typicality

  • ISI is mindful not to disrupt the school
  • ISI will not expect schools to produce specific documentation prior or during the inspection
  • ISI will view pupil's current work and not expect to collate work prior to inpsection
  • ISI may request to see certain files to evaluate the day-to-day running of the school
  • ISI will collaborate with schools to attempt to find suitable times for inspection

Manageability

  • ISI will make judgements on schools professionally, taking scale and impact of errors into consideration
  • When there are just minor errors, ISI will take a proportionate approach (vice-versa is true for systemic difficulties)
  • ISI will create a guided action plan to remedy errors

Proportionality

  • ISI will work collaboratively with school leaders to ensure the smooth-running inpection
  • ISI will liaise regularly with school leaders to keep in touch with ongoing inspections
  • ISI will offer school leaders the ability to be involved with some inspection activities, like joint lesson walks. These activites are helpful for providing context to evidence
