Plot
"King Lear" follows the story of Lear, the king of Britain, who decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters, Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia, based on their flattery for him. Cordelia, the youngest and most genuine of the three, refuses to participate in the exaggerated praise and is subsequently disinherited by Lear. Goneril and Regan, eager for power, manipulate their father and quickly reveal their true nature. As Lear becomes aware of his daughters' betrayal, he succumbs to madness and wanders through a storm, accompanied by his Fool and the also deceived Earl of Gloucester.
PLot
The subplot focuses on Gloucester's illegitimate son, Edmund, who manipulates his father into believing that his legitimate son, Edgar, is scheming against him.
Subplot
The play depicts the deterioration of Lear's mental state as he faces the consequences of his actions and his daughters' actions. Meanwhile, Gloucester's loyalty to Lear leads him to suffer greatly at the hands of Regan, Goneril, and Edmund. The story is also interwoven with other characters, such as the Earl of Kent, who remains loyal to Lear despite his disguise, and the Duke of Albany, who opposes the cruelty of his wife, Goneril. As the play progresses, Cordelia returns to Britain with an army to restore order and save her father. However, their reunion is bittersweet as Lear dies of heartbreak upon seeing Cordelia's lifeless body. Edgar eventually reveals the truth and defeats Edmund in a duel. The play concludes with the deaths of several characters, leaving behind a sense of tragedy and redemption.
