Our body needs oxygen to function

It takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide.

The respiratory system

Air enters the body through the nose and mouth

The air travels into the trachea that is a long tube made of muscle and cartilage

The diaphragm is a skeletal muscle. As it contracts, the lungs expand and take the oxygen. When it relaxes, the air leaves the lungs

Each bronchiole has air sacs called alveoli. The alveoli are covered in tiny blood vessels called capillaries
