Il nome "Queen" fu pensato da Mercury (Bulsara). Venne scelto perché era corto e facile da ricordare ed inoltre esprimeva cio' che volevano essere ed apparire agli occhi di tutti: maestosi e regali.

Si sono conosciuti durante un concerto londinese nel 1970, quando ancora Freddie Mercury lavorava con Farrock. Brian May e Roger Taylor, invece, erano membri della band degli Smile. I Queen furono veramente al completo, quando nel 1971 iniziò a far parte della della band anche John Deacon.

Come si è formata?

Questa canzone venne scritta da Freddie Mercury pensando al calcio: volle creare un inno diverso da quelli tradizionali del calcio, che potesse rappresentare per i tifosi non solo un inno alla vittoria, ma anche per la rivincita dopo un momento difficile, un riscatto ottenuto lottando". Così nacque "We are the champions".
