What is Good Omens?

  • Book written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett and adapted into TV series
  • the angel Aziraphale (Heaven's representative on Earth) and the demon Crowley (Hell's representative on Earth)

The witch "trials"

  • from 15th to 18th century in England
  • executed anyone they thought made a "pact with Satan", 90% of which were innocent women.
  • Agnes Nutter (in the series) VS. Alice Nutter (in real life)

Shakespeare

  • An English playwright and poet from the 17th century (April 1564-April 23rd 1616)
  • the Globe theatre in London (built for Shakespeare)
  • his tragedies were not a success when they first came out (empty theatre)

The "Resurrectionists"

  • Grave robbers in the Victorian era who stole fresh corpses (to dissect for medicine research)
  • People created traps to prevent the graves from being robbed (i.e.: grave guns, mortsafes/mortcages,...)
  • The Blitz started in september 1940 and ended in may 1941 in England. It was a bombing campaign led by the Luftwaffe.
  • Aziraphale performed a magic show in the windmill theatre (real theatre in London. Their motto: "We never closed!" because they never stopped putting on shows, even during the blitz.)
