King Loius XVI was forced to meet the Estates General ( an assembly with representative of all estates) in order to raise taxes.

Reign of terror

The Reign of Terror was a period of the French Revolution, it was a series of massacres and numerous public executions, around 50.000 people were executed by guillotine

In june of 1789, the 3rd estate declared itself the assembly of the nation, because they didn't accept the voting system and they considered that they were the only legitimate representatives of the french people.

There was a tax crisis caused by overspending money, due to a dangerous increase in taxes because of the bad state of the French economy. As they were privilleged, estate 1 and 2, did not have to pay taxes, on the other hand, the 3rd estate had to paid all the taxes.

The countries that participed were: Austria, Russia, Turkey and Great Britain

Second Coalition was the military effort carried out for the second time by some European powers to stop the French Revolution.

The Empire

During the empire Napoleon declared himself the emperor of the French and concentrated authority in his own person

Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon was a French military and political leader who rose to prominence during the French Revolution and led several revolutionary wars.

The consulate

It was a period that, three consuls shared power but Napoleon gave himself more and more power.
