• add an open-ended question that covers the content of the guest lecture to your exam, in which you explicitly question the students' insights into contextual differences or international models. In so doing, you make sure the students will pay attention and participate during the guest lecture;

• set your students a short reflection assignment (e.g. an essay), in which you assess the students' main conclusions from the guest lecture

• appeal to your personal network or that of your colleagues to find a suitable guest speaker (academics, alumni, researchers, professionals...). It might also be useful to get in touch with institutions from existing partnerships (e.g. exchange agreements);

• ensure a well-considered approach (including logistics), settle on a suitable time and place together, and discuss all the details (journey, accommodation, tech support, ...);

• advertise the guest lecture to students, collect their questions in advance and/or ask them to prepare the lecture by researching the guest speaker's background or publications;

• contextualise the guest speaker's contribution – establish the link with the international and intercultural competencies you want your students to attain – and make sure that the guest lecture fits into the structure of your course unit in logical way;

• make time for a follow-up and discuss future contributions by the guest speaker to ensure continuity and quality. You might consider alternating between online and on-campus contributions.

Internationalisation@Home

Invite a (n international) guest speaker to introduce an international/intercultural perspective to your course unit. In so doing, you bring students into contact with international topics and teach them to develop other perspectives. Guest speakers can make students aware of other forms of knowledge production and methods to conduct academic research.

• Voeg een open vraag toe aan het examen over de inhoud van het gastcollege waarmee je bijv. expliciet peilt naar inzicht in contextuele verschillen, internationale modellen etc. Zo zorg je er ook voor dat studenten aandachtig zijn/participeren in de gastles.

• Voorzie een korte reflectieopdracht (bijv. essay), waar je peilt naar de belangrijkste conclusies van studenten uit het gastcollege

• Doe beroep op je persoonlijk netwerk of dat van collega's om een geschikte gastspreker (academici, alumni, werkveld...) te vinden. Het kan ook nuttig zijn om partnerinstellingen aan te spreken waarmee je al samenwerkt (bv. voor uitwisselingen);

• Zorg voor een doordachte planning en logistiek, waarbij je samen een geschikte datum en tijd afstemt en alle details bespreekt (reis, accommodatie, technische ondersteuning etc.);

• Promoot de gastles bij studenten, verzamel eventueel op voorhand vragen en/of laat hen voorbereiden door bijvoorbeeld de achtergrond of publicaties van de gastspreker op te zoeken;

• Kader de bijdrage van de gastspreker goed – leg de link met internationale en interculturele competenties die je beoogt – en zorg ervoor dat de bijdrage aansluit bij de logische opbouw van jouw vak.

• Zorg voor follow-up en bespreek toekomstige bijdragen van de gastspreker om continuïteit en kwaliteit te waarborgen.

Nodig een (buitenlandse) gastspreker uit die een internationaal/intercultureel perspectief kan binnenbrengen in je vak. Studenten komen zo in aanraking met internationale thema’s en leren andere perspectieven ontwikkelen. Gastsprekers kunnen studenten sensibiliseren voor andere vormen van kennisproductie en methodes om aan wetenschappelijk onderzoek te doen.

In het vak 'Internationaal zakenwezen' worden gastcolleges verzorgd door bedrijfsleiders en CEO's die werk(t)en in een multinational en/of langdurig in het buitenland hebben gewoond. De gastsprekers werken een live case uit. De rol van cultuur in internationale fusies en overnames komt ook aan bod.

International Guest Speaker

The International Business Class course unit contains guest lectures by managers and CEOs who live and work (have lived and worked) abroad (for a long time), and/or work(ed) for a multinational. Each of them develop a specific case. The cultural aspect of international mergers and take-overs is also discussed.

In the Capita Selecta in Bioinformatics course unit renown (inter)national scientists are invited to discuss the applications of bioinformatics in various domains. In addition, at least two guest speakers also delve deeper into the ethical aspects of bioinformatics.

The Animal Nutrition course unit contains a guest lecture held by a PhD student who has lived in Kenia for a long time and is still active as an advisor to zoos. As such, the guest speaker introduces international (work) experiences and expertise into the teaching practice.

In het vak ‘Capita Selecta in Bioinformatics’ worden gerenommeerde (inter)nationale wetenschappers uitgenodigd om de toepassingen van bioinformatics in verschillende domeinen te bespreken. Daarnaast gaan ook minstens twee gastsprekers dieper in op de ethische aspecten ervan.
