When Romans invaded Britain and took control over the celtic lands, they blended together two important Roman holidays FERALIA (to commemorate the dead) and POMONA (to celebrate the goddess of trees and fruit)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ebDZiRAs68 The Celts celebrated SAMHAIN. (sow-in) one of the most important holiday on 1st November. It was the end of the summer and the beginning of the cold winter. On 31st October the celtic priests, the Druids, built giant bonefire to combat the evil spirits wearing costumes made of animals and tried to tell each other's fortune

The Celtic church established a festival called ALL SAINT'S DAY to be hel every year on 1st Novembeer

A wave of European immigrants arrived in America, they brought Halloween traditions and by the ent of 18oo they changed the holiday into a night of community gathering rather than a celebration of ghosts and evils spirits

By the turn of the 20th century Halloween parties with costumes, games and seasonal food became polular
