Collocations

A collocation is a combination of two or more words which frequently occur together

very strongly associated words

Revelant to progress towards expert use of language

  • to be more accurate (e.g. avoid interference from other known languages)
  • to sound more natural (e.g. establish your credibility, state your authority)
  • to vary speech/writing
  • to improve understanding of spoken/written texts
  • to appreciate creative, meaningful departures from expected language patterns
  • to produce better translations
