IMU Library, Bukit Jalil - To foster collaborative learning and share valuable insights, a delegation of five representatives from Kolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM) recently embarked on a comprehensive exploration of the self-developed KOHA system at the International Medical University (IMU) Library. The informative session, held on 20th July 2023 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, unfolded in the multipurpose area of the IMU Library. The primary objective of the KYUEM Resource Center team's visit was to deepen their understanding of the various dimensions of the KOHA system. The exploration covered multiple topics: requirements, design, development, installation, migration, testing, and implementation. The session commenced with an enlightening overview by Mr. Norhalim Mohd Nor, the IMU System Librarian, who adeptly guided the delegation through the details of the library's customized KOHA system. Following Mr. Norhalim's comprehensive presentation, the focus shifted to specific modules. Ms. Robayah Atan provided insights into the acquisition module, elucidating its crucial role in the library's day-to-day operations. Subsequently, Ms. Nurul Hafizah Jumat delved into the Cataloging and Classification module, offering the KYUEM delegation a closer look at how library resources are organized and managed. 24th August 2023 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Library professionals from both public and private institutions gathered at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre for the highly anticipated EBSCO User Day. The event specifically tailored for librarians from public & private university featured a day-long program filled with insightful sessions and discussions. The event which started at 8:45 a.m. and concluded at 4:30 p.m. drew notable attendees, including Ms. Robayah Atan and Ms. Noor Syazwani Munajat , who represented IMU Library as Acquisition Librarians. The day kicked off with a registration session, followed by a warm welcome and an exploration of EBSCO's role in the post-pandemic era by Shaji John, Vice President of Sales at EBSCO. The morning unfolded with a detailed examination of the technologies powering modern libraries, expertly presented by KC Yew, a SaaS/FOLIO Sales Specialist at EBSCO. After a well-deserved networking break, participants engaged with Ching Wei Chew, Library Services Engineer at EBSCO, who provided insights into the future of libraries, focusing on the pillars of discovery and authentication. Midday sessions included a compelling talk by Jefrina Jamaluddin, Chief Librarian at Bank Negara Malaysia, and a comprehensive update on databases by Erik Junikon, Regional Sales Manager at EBSCO. The networking lunch offered a valuable opportunity for librarians to connect and share experiences. In the afternoon, KC Yew discussed leveraging Software as a Service (SaaS) to maximize library budgets and collections. The event also highlighted a session on eBook management by Tan Wenrong, an Account Executive at EBSCO, and insights on patron engagement from Noor Ashikin, Director of Sales at EBSCO. In a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing library services, Assoc Prof Dr Heethal Jaiprakash, Director of Learning Resources at the International Medical University (IMU), recently led a visit to IMU Clinical Campuses Library. The library management team, IMU Chief Librarian Hajah Zuhanariah Mohd Nordin, Ms. Robayah Atan, Mr. Norhalim Mohd Nor, and Mr. Razman Shah Mohd Razali accompanied her. The visit aimed to deepen the understanding of library operations and challenges across multiple campuses. The journey commenced on June 14, 2023, from Bukit Jalil at 7:30 am and reached the Batu Pahat Campus by 11:00 am. The team received a warm welcome from Ms. Efizah Sofiah Ramly and Mr. Mohd Fadzil Kemat, the librarians, and they engaged in a presentation about the library services at Batu Pahat Campus. Lunch at Batu Pahat provided an opportunity for informal conversations and further insights into the challenges faced by the library staff. The visit continued to IMU Kluang around 12:30 pm, where the team delved into the specifics of library management. Ms. Nur Hafizah Hussain, the librarian in charge of the Kluang library, provided valuable insights into operational hours, the diverse user base, available facilities at each campus, and the day-to-day challenges encountered by the library staff. This continuous commitment to understanding and enhancing library services reflects IMU's dedication to providing optimal resources and support for its academic community across all clinical campuses. On September 5, 2023, the team went on the next visit to IMU Clinical Campuses library in Seremban and Kuala Pilah. Departing from Bukit Jalil around 8:30 am, the group arrived at the Seremban campus at 9:30 am, spending approximately two hours exploring the library and engaging with staff. The Seremban Library was operated by three staff members – Ms. Nur Atikah Abdullah, Ms. Norzilamazni Saniman, and Mr. Muhammad Najib Mohd Rais. The team proceeded to the Kuala Pilah Clinical campus at 11:00 am, reaching KP around noon. Ms. Eryllda Sherina Syahril, the KP librarian, provided a comprehensive briefing on KP library services and facilities, engaging in discussions about work challenges. She then led a thorough tour of the building. The team concluded their visit and returned to Bukit Jalil around 1:00 pm. Assoc Prof Dr Heethal Jaiprakash acknowledged the work challenges faced across IMU's clinical campuses library and acquired valuable insights throughout the visit. This strategic initiative underscores IMU's commitment to maintaining excellence in educational resources and ensuring an optimal library experience for students and faculty across various campuses.

The audit is focused on several key objectives: 1. Demonstrate commitment to Occupational Safety and Health, and contribute to SETARA 2.Improve overall safety, health and wellness of employees with relevant activities (fire drills, indoor air quality assessments, chemical risk assessments, incident investigations) 3.Improve awareness of safety, health and wellness of employees with workshops and briefings 4.Systematically identify and reduce workplace hazards and accidents 5.Reduce costly downtime (in case of major injury, fatality, fire) Internal Audit The internal audit took place on the 6th and 7th of July 2023 at the IMU library main campus and IMU library clinical campus Seremban, respectively. Experienced auditors, Ms. Norhasmawiza Binti Abdullah @ Ab Rahman, Senior Laboratory Technologist from the Multi-Disciplinary Labs (MDL) Department at IMU Bukit Jalil, and Ms. Nor Azrina Binti Aziz, tutor from the Clinical Skills & Simulation Centre (CSSC) in Seremban, meticulously focused on key objectives. The audit encompassed the main campus library auditees, including Ms. Noor Syazwani Munajat, Ms. Nurul Hafizah Jumat, and Ms. Hajar Afiqah Saharani from the Bukit Jalil campus. For the Seremban campus, representatives included Hajah Zuhanariah Mohd Nordin, Mr. Norhalim Mohd Nor, Ms. Nur Atikah Abdullah, Ms. Norzilamazni Saniman, and Mr. Muhammad Najib from the Clinical Campus. The audit's scope covered Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC), safety and health protocols within various departments, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) such as IMU/SOP/IMU/10 (SP 6), IMU/SOP/FMA/16, IMU/SOP/FMA/21. The audit yielded a positive outcome, with no observations or non-conformances recorded, highlighting IMU's dedication to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for its staff and stakeholders. External Audit Subsequently, the IMU Library main campus underwent an external audit for ISO45001 OSH on 21st November 2023. The audit, conducted by experienced auditor Tengku Hasmalia, included a thorough review of HIRARC, competency and awareness, operational control, supplier/contractor management, calibration, and emergency preparedness and response. Auditees for the external audit included Mr. Razman Shah Mohd Razali and Ms. Nurul Hafizah Jumat from the IMU Library. Similar to the internal audit, the external audit resulted in a positive outcome, with no observations or non-conformances recorded. This success underscores IMU's commitment to excellence in Occupational Safety and Health, setting a benchmark for other institutions to emulate. IMU's proactive approach to safety and health not only ensures a secure environment for its academic community but also reinforces its position as a leader in promoting occupational well-being in educational settings.

International Medical University (IMU) recently underwent an internal audit for compliance with the ISO 21001:2018 standard, focusing on the Educational Organization Management System (EOMS). The audit covered IMU Library at Bukit Jalil and the IMU Library Clinical Campus Seremban, providing a comprehensive evaluation of their organizational management system. The Audit was conducted on 17 July 2023 at the Bukit Jalil campus and 18 July 2023 at the Clinical Campus respectively. The audit was managed by a team of auditors, including Ms. Inthirah Narayanan from Deanary, IMU Seremban and Ms Maithilli Ratnam from IMU Centre for Education, IMU Bukit Jalil. The auditees, who consisted of key members from both libraries, included Hajah Zuhanariah Mohd Nordin, Mr. Norhalim Mohd Nor, Ms. Robayah Atan, Mr. Razman Shah Mohd Razali, Ms. Noor Syazwani Munajat, Ms. Nurul Hafizah Jumat, and Ms. Hajar Afiqah Saharani from the Bukit Jalil campus. For the Seremban campus, the representation comprised Hajah Zuhanariah Mohd Nordin, Mr. Norhalim Mohd Nor, Ms. Nur Atikah Abdullah, and Ms. Norzilamazni Saniman from the Clinical Campus. The audit session was conducted online via the Teams meeting platform. There were no non-conformances or observations found during the audit, which proves that both IMU Libraries are fully compliant with the ISO 21001 Educational Organization Management System. The documentation, processes, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) were thoroughly reviewed and found to be aligned with all the necessary requirements. This is a remarkable achievement that reflects the high level of professionalism and dedication of the IMU Libraries' team. The successful completion of the ISO 21001:2018 audit reflects the commitment of IMU Libraries to maintaining high standards in educational organization management. The constructive suggestions provided by the audit team offer opportunities for continuous improvement, ensuring that IMU Libraries remain at the forefront of excellence in educational services. The IMU Clinical Campus Seremban Library recently hosted another round of book giveaways held from 1st to the 30th of August 2023 at the Reserve Collection area at the Library. The initiative began as part of the Library practice, where books are typically discarded for various reasons. Therefore, the IMU library made significant efforts to repurpose these used books and return them to the IMU community through free giveaways. This event was highly awaited by students and staff as an opportunity to acquire free books. The objectives of the event were to optimize library space, foster user engagement in library activities, offer users complimentary books, and gather valuable feedback for future enhancements. Positive participation from faculty members and students in the library indirectly increased user library statistics. At the same time, this event also promoted the library's new resources and library services. The book giveaway event was organized led by Muhammad Najib Mohd Rais, starting with the creation and design of poster. An email invitation was sent to the Faculty Staff and all students in Clinical Campus. On the day of the event, participants were instructed to visit the Circulation Counter, where their details and book barcodes were recorded, along with the released book’s library security. Users were also encouraged to provide feedback by filling out Book Giveaway Events Form at the Circulation Counter. Based on the results, 304 weeded books were distributed to students and staff. The book giveaway events provided advantages to the IMU community by offering them additional opportunities to acquire knowledge without impacting their budgets. Overall, positive feedback was received by the library from users who participated in the events, including high user engagement and satisfaction with the book conditions.

To empower faculty members with advanced digital library skills, the IMU Library has recently initiated a course comprised of nine modules tailored specifically for IMU faculty. Upon successful completion of these modules, participants will be awarded certificates and badges that signified their proficiency in accessing databases, utilizing KOHA, and working with academic journals. The objectives of this course are: 1. To empower faculty, especially newcomers, in utilizing the library resources effectively and efficiently. 2. To enhance support for faculty's teaching and learning endeavors. 3. To guide faculty in citing the references properly, especially in using Vancouver citation style. 4. To facilitate database access via the library portal. This course is delivered through the Moodle-based library portal using Articulate 360 (Storyline 360 and Rise 360), and H5P. The course ensures practical and hands-on learning experiences for faculty. The program equips participants to navigate library resources with efficiency, integrate digital materials into their teaching methods, master citation skills, and seamlessly access databases for an enriched educational experience. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Razman Shah Mohd Razali, an expert reference librarian from IMU Library. The workshop was conducted via the Microsoft Teams platform providing professionals with an opportunity to learn and enhance their research skills.

IMU Library has recently organized an online workshop on Mendeley, a research management tool on 25 July 2023. The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Razman Shah Mohd Razali, an expert reference librarian from IMU Library. The workshop was conducted via the Microsoft Teams platform providing professionals with an opportunity to learn and enhance their research skills. The workshop was targeted to those new to Mendeley, students and scholars in the process of preparing their theses or research, as well as individuals who recently joined the university. Additionally, participants interested in migrating references from ProQuest RefWorks or EndNote to their Mendeley accounts were also welcome to this workshop. Key highlights of the workshop included: 1. Registering individual account The session began with a step-by-step guide on creating and setting up individual Mendeley accounts. This was done to ensure that attendees could effectively utilize the platform's features tailored to their specific research requirements. 2. Importing Reference to Mendeley from ProQuest RefWorks and EndNote Mr. Razman Shah Mohd Razali explained how to transfer references from ProQuest RefWorks and EndNote to Mendeley, aiming to help researchers familiar with other tools transition easily to Mendeley. 3. Importing reference and its article from Google Scholar The session also covered importing references and articles from well-known academic search engines such as Google Scholar. This was valuable for researchers seeking to simplify their literature review process. 4. Importing reference and its article from Ebsco Discovery Services (EDS) Participants also learned how to import references and articles from Ebsco Discovery Services into Mendeley. 5. Importing reference from websites The workshop also covered the process of importing references directly from websites, enabling participants to efficiently integrate information from diverse online sources into their Mendeley libraries. 6. Adding citations in Microsoft Word An essential part of any reference management system is integration with Microsoft Word. The workshop provided hands-on guidance on integrating citations into Microsoft Word documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with citation styles. The engaging and interactive workshop allowed participants to clarify and seek advice from Mr. Razman Shah Mohd Razali. The event not only served as a valuable resource for those new to Mendeley but also provided advanced insights for experienced researchers looking to optimize their reference management strategies.

The IMU Library Knowledge Challenge 2023 Quizzes took place from 1st August – 1 November 2023 in conjunction with IMU International Learning Resources Festival 2023 (iLRF23). The quizzes aimed to help users discover the online databases and collaborate with vendors for better use of e-resources. The success of the online challenge contributed to the vibrant atmosphere leading up to the iLRF 2023 event.

The IMU Library Knowledge Challenge 2023 Quizzes took place from 1st August – 1 November 2023 in conjunction with IMU International Learning Resources Festival 2023 (iLRF23). The quizzes aimed to help users discover the online databases and collaborate with vendors for better use of e-resources. The success of the online challenge contributed to the vibrant atmosphere leading up to the iLRF 2023 event. The objective of this challenge is: 1. To conduct a series of online quizzes in supporting users in content discovery for specific subscribed database. 2. To strengthen relationship with vendors by collaborating with them in promoting e-resources. 3. To ensure the subscribed e-resources are fully utilised. 4. To enliven route to iLRF 2023 that was held from 6 – 9 November 2023. The quizzes' questions were prepared by the publishers and suppliers, including Access Dunia, ED Connect, and BMJ. Online learning platforms such as Microsoft Forms, Google Forms, and SurveyMonkey were used for these activities. The Library Knowledge Challenge 2023 is open to all users of the IMU Library, including both students and staff. Furthermore, there is also a face-to-face challenge required participants to organized into teams, to present their case studies to successfully complete the challenge. Clinical campus Librarians reviewed the questions and monitored the activities. The iLRF 2023 website, Library Portal, email, and various social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok) served as promotional channels for the activities. The announcement of online quiz winners took place during the iLRF23 Festival. There are 11 databases involved in this quiz. They are BMJ Best Practice, Springer Nature, Access BioMedicalScience & Access Science, Access Pediatrics & Access Surgery, Access Pharmacy, Ovid, Thieme, ClinicalKey & ClinicalKey for Nursing, Scopus, BMJ Comorbidities (Trial Database), and BMJ Learning (Trial Database). All quizzes run for 3 weeks, except for the CK Challenge, which spans 4 weeks due to the challenge having 2 rounds: an online quiz and a face-to-face challenge. As a result, the total number of participants joining this quiz is 226 persons, including both students and staff. Ms. Hajar Afiqah Saharani, colleagues at Bukit Jalil Library have organized the prizing arrangement for the quiz. All winners have been notified by email about their winner and how to receive their prizes. The winner was announced on the final day of the iLRF event through a live session and on the ILRF website on 9th November 2023. We are greatly thankful for the contributions of all vendors to the success of the iLRF23 event. Their efforts in designing the quiz and sponsoring the prizes were greatly appreciated. It was truly an honour collaborating with them, and we looked forward to the possibility of working together again for next year's festival. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the library team and all individuals involved in the success of this event.
