BENJAMINFRANKLIN

A self-made man is a man who has built himself. The term was developed in 1860 by the American Frederick Douglass. It is an Anglo-American term that describes a person who is successful because of the choices and actions he makes, and not because of his social or economic origins.

  • Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston and died on April 17, 1790 in Philadelphia.
  • He was an American printer, publisher, writer, naturalist, inventor, and politician.

  • From the age of eight, Benjamin took grammar lessons
  • He struggled with mathematics, so his father had to take him out of school
  • Franklin went to learn in his brother's printing shop
  • It was here that he became interested in the world of literature and philosophy
  • James Franklin was often arrested for what he published
  • Benjamin wrote and distributed newspapers on his own

His childhood

  • At 16, he began writing articles and sending them to the newspaper
  • His brother, who was jealous of Benjamin, railed against him all the time.
  • In September 1723, he left Boston for Philadelphia.
  • In 1726, he opened his own printing house, which became famous in Philadelphia.
  • He also founded the Junta, it's a club for businessmen and intellectuals. He also created a rich municipal library.

The beginning

  • In 1732, he published his first successful newspaper
  • In 1736, he became Philadelphia's city representative and helped the city on its protection
  • 1748, he was rich and turned to politics
  • Outside politics, he opened a laboratory, where he made many experiments and discoveries
  • So he became an important
person in the USA

  • In 1764, he lost his seat in the Pennsylvania Assembly
  • But he was appointed ambassador to London, he stayed in London for 10 years, but it didn't go well
  • He returned to Pennsylvania.
  • At the age of 70, he once again became Pennsylvania's representative
  • He helped the country until his death on April 17, 1790 at the age of eighty-four.
