Are YOU an AVID student?
AVID students are those who have the drive to work hard, and/or may need extra support in achieving their postsecondary goals. Students who are eligible for the AVID elective should meet any of the following criterion:
- Earned As, Bs and Cs
- Desire to go to college
- May be first in family to go to college
- Historically Underserved in four-year colleges
- Ability to Maintain Enrollment in College Prep Courses (ex: Honors, Dual Enrollment, IB, and/or AP Classes)
- Hard Working and/or Eager to Learn and Grow
Are YOU AVID ready?
In addition to supporting and developing academic skills, AVID students gain exposure to college and career readiness though college tours, guest speakers, and field trips. AVID students also receive support throughout the college application process; including help researching and applying to scholarship opportunities.
What AVID is not:
- a remedial program
- a free ride
- a school within a school
- a quick fix
What is AVID?
AVID’s teaching strategies and curriculum build positive teacher-student relationships to ensure student success schoolwide.AVID students:
- Enroll in advanced courses (AP®)
- Receive academic instruction and tutorial support
- Strengthen their writing skills
- Improve study and organization skills
- Gain “college knowledge”
- Visit colleges and explore careers
No one can predict the future, but all students can be prepared to thrive in the world that awaits them. With the appropriate postsecondary preparation and a focus on soft skills that businesses need, AVID students are ready to shape their path and change our world.

What is AVID?
AVID College Readiness System is an academic regularly scheduled elective class during the school day. The curriculum is based on writing and critical thinking and reading, inquiry, and collaborative learning strategies.The three main components are:
- Academic Instruction
- Tutorial Support
- College Readiness
AVID's Mission
AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college and career readiness and success in a global society.
- To succeed in rigorous curriculum
- To complete a rigorous college preparatory path
- To enter mainstream activities of the school
- To increase their enrollment in four year colleges
- To become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society
