Xenlulozo ( ( C 6 H 10 O 5 ) n có phân tử khối rất lớn, là một polime hợp thành từ các mắt xích β glicozit, phân tử xenlulozo không phân nhánh, không xoắn.

Mỗi mắt xích C 6 H 10 O 5 có 3 nhóm OH tự do nên xenlulozo có tính chất hóa học của ancol đa chức.

_ Phản ứng này áp dụng trong sản xuất alcohol etylic công nghiệp, xuất phát từ nguyên liệu chứa xenlulozơ (vỏ bào, mùn cưa, tre, nứa, v.v...). _Phản ứng thủy phân xenlulozơ có thể xảy ra nhờ tác dụng xúc tác của enzim xenlulaza có trong cơ thể động vật nhai lại (trâu, bò...). Cơ thể người không có enzim này nên không thể tiêu hóa được xenlulozơ.

5.PHƯƠng PHÁp ĐIỀu chế

Tráng phủ: Xenlulozo có thể được điều chế bằng cách tráng phủ xenlulo bằng axetanhydrit. Quá trình này diễn ra bằng cách ngâm xenlulo trong dung dịch axetanhydrit, sau đó được sấy khô và tiếp tục qua quá trình tráng phủ để tạo ra xenlulozo. Phương pháp này tạo ra xenlulozo có tính chất kháng nước và kháng cháy.
