Freedom Riders

Back to entrance

The Freedom Riders started in Washington D.C and intended to end in New Orleans, Louisiana. In spring of 1961, a group of black people wanted to see if they could sit anywhere they wanted to, and use integrated public places. In Anniston, Alabama the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) a terrist group, had beaten up the freedom riders on the grey-hound bus. The beat them with iron pipes, baseball bats, liquids, and alot of other things. What would you do if these types of things were getting thrown at you? As a result of this every single bus needed to show a cirtificut that said "Everyone has the right to sit anywhere, no matter race, religion or anytype of culture."

Info

This artifact shows one of the Greyhound buses burning after being bombed by the KKK, in Anniston Alabama. This was very important, because this is what the Fredom Riders constantly went through. All the Freedom Riders survived the bus attack against the KKK some being injured and some not. Do you think you could survive this, and have the bravery to even do a protest like this?

This artifact shows a mob of white people beating Freedom Riders in Birmigham. This was daily life for alot of the blacks back in the days, they would get beat up over anything they did. This shows how bad blacks actually got treated. Could you stay as strong as them.

This artifact is a momument of the Freedom Riders in the exact location the bus bombing happened. This is a momorial, that people can walk to everday and see the impact that this really had to the nation. This is very important as their is importanr artifacts that bring people here to see.

Greensboro Sit-Ins

Back to entrance

In 1960, a group of 4 black students sat at a white lunch counter hopeing to stop segregation. There was a ton of violence during this time, people getting wipped punched. Liquids getting thrown at people and alot more things. It had grown to alot more cities within the nation over a period of time. The buissnesses had gaved loosing buisness, or letting blacks be treated the same as whites at resturants. Which one do you think they chose? Well the Greensboro Sit-ins had stopped segregation and segregating. It inspired others to not give up, and always dream about your outcomes.

Info

This artifact shows 2 of the black students getting attacked by a mob of white people. This happened constantly during the Greensboro sit-ins yet the 4 students stayed strong. If this happened to me I would give up, would you? They had kept going for several hours every signle day until segregation would no longer be a thing.

This artifact shows the 4 black students ignoring the white mob during the protest. The 4 black students had no intrest in the white people. They simply looked straight ahead the whole time waiting to be server or get serverd. (Which was what they were protesting.) In my opinion this was alot more effective in this becoming a law.

This artifact shows the 4 black students sitting at a white only resturant protesting silently. These 4 black students were silent the entier time they protested. Even though the whites kept beating them. These 4 black students were very brave, and didnt care one single bit of what the white people thought.
