Notting Hill Carnival
The festival
The Notting Hill Carnival is a festival that re-enacts the music, colors and costumes of those originally held on the islands of Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, and is in fact considered an event of significant importance in British black culture. So significant that, over the years, it has ended up becoming a true icon of British culture!
When It takes place?
Notting Hill Carnival has been held annually since 1965 in the streets of the Notting Hill neighborhood of London. The event is held in August and lasts for two days: the Bank holiday Monday and the Sunday preceding it.
Attractions
At the heart of the festival there is a spetacular parade. The Carnival route is three miles long and hundreds of groups move along it. There’s music, decorated floats, elaborate costumes and dancing. It’s a very loud festival because there are 45 sound systems in the street playing music.
Where It takes place?
The festivities take place in the famous and elegant Notting Hill district, especially along Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove, Westbourne Grove, Westbourne Park and Kensal Road where rivers of people populate this enthralling carnival animated by thousands of dancing and colourful bodies.
