THANK YOU FOR PLAYING!!

To carry out this task, we have chosen to implement Ubuntu in mathematics class. We will explain the students what Ubuntu is and its purpose. Afterwards we will tell the students to divide in 6 groups and carry out some simple math exercises. The catch is that every group is lacking a number needed for their exercise, and every group is given the number a different group needs. Thus, students will need to collaborate to get the numbers they need from the other groups to finish their exercise. After every group is finished, the groups will be given one more exercise in which all of the answers from the previous exercises are implemented. They will need to share their answers with each other to finish the problem.

How do we implement Ubuntu in class?

One student of your class is in need of money. They place a jar in the middle of the class in which students who want to help them in their situation can place money to help them. Some of the students place a lot of money, some place less and some of them place no money at all. How much money is in the jar at the end of the day?

Each group will be given a number another group needs and a math exercise that is missing a number. To make it easier to understand, instead of saying 'this is the number group 4 needs' every time that number appears on screen, we will assign a letter to each group, and when that number is needed, we will write the group's letter in the gap. Group a will recieve the exercise 'a + 3 . 4' and the meaning of d: 3 Group b will recieve the exercise '(b + 1) : 2' and the meaning of c: 10 Group c will recieve the exercise 'c . 1 - 5' and the meaning of f: 0 Group d will recieve the exercise '(19 + 2) : d' and the meaning of a: 2 Group e will recieve the exercise 'e + 4 - 5' and the meaning of b: 5 Group f will recieve the exercise 'f . 27 + 4' and the meaning of e: 1
After students ask each other for their missing numbers and answer their exercises, the answers should be: Group a: 14 Group b: 3 Group c: 5 Group d: 7 Group e: 0 Group f: 4 Then the students will be given one last and harder exercise to solve. This exercise will involve all of their answers: Answer A - Answer F + (Answer C . Answer B) - (Answer D . Answer E) After they solve this exercise, the students will know the answer to the problem is '25'. The methods of solving the exercise have nothing to do with the title, but we needed a problem that depended partially on luck to be solved, hence why we chose a problem in which we didn't need to truly say the number of students. This practice will have allowed students to practice what they have been taught while also having a practical example of Ubuntu. They have work together towards the common goal of having the satisfaction of having answered the problem.
