SeReNDiPiTy
En español There is // There are se traduce como "Hay". There are some fruits = Hay algunas frutas.
QUESTIONS
There is a big book.
Is There a big book ?
There are two pencils.
Are There two pencils?
?
NEGATIVE
There is a big book.
NO
There is not a big book.
There isn't a big book.
There are books.
There are not books.
There aren't books.
How many + plural noun + are there ... ?
How many animals are there in the zoo?
How many girls are there in your class?
Cuando queremos decir que no hay algo en inglés debemos añadir el not entre el verbo (is/are) y el objeto (apples, monkeys, children...). There is not a snake in the river. There are not monkeys in the zoo Lo más habitual es que aparezca contraído el not. There isn't a snake in the river. There aren't monkeys in the zoo.
Para preguntar si hay algo en concreto simplemente tenemos que invertir el orden del THERE y de IS o ARE. De esta forma sería así: There is one boy in the kitchen. IS THERE one boy in the kitchen? There are chairs in the living room. ARE THERE chairs in the living room?
