• Mary had a sister named Louisa and a brother named Edward
• We don't know if Mary attended school but we do know she had a love for nursing at a young age and was helping her run a boarding house in Kingston where many sick and injured soldiers were housed.
• Mary had no childern and was married in 1936 .

• Mary Seacole Was Born on November 23,1805 in Kingston, Jamaica as a member of the community of free black people in Jamaica. She was the daughter of James Grant, A Scottish Lieutenant in the British Army.

• In 1855 Mary went to Crimea in a ship shocked with medical supplies when they arrived, When she arrived she found many soldiers cold, wounded and hungry
• Mary opened a British Hospital/ Resturant near the battlefield to house the soldiers and used the money spent there to help treat and care for many soldiers

• Mary was a skilled nursing and business woman
• Mary Seacole learned her skills of traditional medicine and herbs from her Jamaican mother and the doctors who would come to boarding house Mary's mother owned officers and fallen soldiers that she would help her mom take care when they get hurt or wounded

Nursing Career/Worklife

Fun FactShe was avid traveler in additon to she was a free black woman. Although she was not a licensed nurse. Do to her skills that her mother and doctors taught her. That would pay visits to her house she was more considered a herbalist. That would practice modern and herblist medicine.
