what will we be learning?
THIS IS ART Learners build the groundwork for their art by practicing unique exercises to develop drawing and mixed media skills. Incorporating their understanding of composition contrast and the elements of art, learners will use the appropriate materials and tools to create a Japanese Notan paper cut out. They will communicate what they have learned in a critical response to their own artwork.
This is Color After exploring the Fauvist Movement and artists such as Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh and Andy Warhol; you will create an original artwork. You will incorporate their understanding of composition, colors and forms, and will use the appropriate materials and tools to create a painting. You will communicate what you have learned in a critical response to their own artwork.
This is Mixed Media In this unit learners build the groundwork for their art by practicing unique exercises to develop mixed media skills. Incorporating their understanding of composition, design, colors and forms, students will use the appropriate materials and tools to work from realism to abstract.
This is Portrait Painting Learners will describe the influences in the Post-Impressionism art movement and give reasons for how these influences affected style, mood and meaning in the artwork. Learners will choose a post-impressionism artist and replicate the artist's style in a self-portrait.
This is Perspective Learners will explore the Surrealist art movement and artists such as Salvator Dali, Andre Breton, and René Magritte. Learners will gain basic practical experience of working in different media, such as lead drawing pencils, colored pencils, and modeling compound. They will learn about different ways to use perspective drawing techniques. They will learn to recognize how artists make use of these techniques. Learners will learn to articulate their own artistic choices and to analyze the choices made by other artists in the critique lesson. They will respond to their own Surrealist artwork in a critical response.
For this class you should have received an art kit in the mail. This kit should have arrived with the rest of your school supplies. If you are missing your supplies or would like to check on the status of your kit you can contact Phillips by calling 1-844-590-2864 and selecting option 4.

I provide detailed feedback for each and every learner’s project for the semester. If you ever see a grade that is low or lower than expected, please press the word bubble icon on that assignment. (As pictured below) Once this opens up, you can read the feedback for that specific project.

UNIT PROJECTS
Projects are weighted the most out of all assignments we have throughout the semester. They can be resubmitted for a higher grade at any point before the course closes.
To resubmit a project, please send it to directly Mrs.Swoboda through webmail
If a project was submitted blank, has irrelevant files, or images from the internet, it will be graded as a zero. Feedback will be provided on that project of why it was scored a zero along with helpful information on how to improve the grade, demonstration videos and my contact information.
