According to Salas, what is the difference between materials development and materials adaptation?
The difference is that the adaptation of Materials is “easier” in the sense that teachers can use texts provided in different textbooks, whereas in Materials Development everything has to be created from scratch. Considering the response according to rooms, the development encompasses a lot in the use of learning by both the teacher and the student since it implies a lot of effort and that can be very beneficial for innovation in their class, in adaptation it is more to continue in the old and Perhaps it will return to the usual learning routine.
What are the benefits of teachers developing their materials?
A teacher knows the needs of his students and that educational realities are often very different from those that arise. It is very beneficial for a teacher to develop his materials because teaching can be facilitated and the student easily adapts to it. In addition to that, teachers can structure their lessons according to what their students need in the most creative way that they see fit.
What are the steps involved in the materials development process?
Identification, exploration, contextual realization, pedagogical realization, physical production, student use of materials, rewriting materials based on student assessment.
What are some of the different types of materials that can be used in English language teaching?
Videos, podcast, posters, books and photographs.
What are the main responsibilities of English teachers as materials developers?
The teacher as a developer must know that what he does meets the needs of the students, in the language of English as a second language, many students do not give much importance to the language, which is why when doing it, he must know that his responsibility is that your students are participants in the material prepared and that you meet the expectations so that you can achieve the teaching objective in your students, language classes cannot be limited to a single book, you must have the responsibility and obligation to look for other ideas, test them and see what we can get and improve from them. As Maley notes, “I would especially like to see more use in materials development of what we know about the value of engaging emotions in the learning process” (Maley 1998, p. 280).
How can teachers effectively select appropriate materials for their classes?
Those materials where students can participate, where they interact with each other, those that are created in a striking way and that they feel that they are interested in knowing what the teacher brings to give his class, the student always wants to experiment and by observing new materials he achieves feel with the ability to be interested and learn a little more than you want to convey.
What factors should be considered when adapting materials for different learner levels or contexts? Explain them and give examples.
Teachers need to consider a number of things, including authenticity, original source, target language proficiency, and students' language levels and ages. After choosing the materials, teachers must decide if the material needs to be further adapted to meet the needs of their students. Authenticity: certifies what is true and safe, examples: documentaries, radio broadcasts, songs and podcasts. Photographs, artwork, posters, postcards, maps, and advertisements. Original source: they are the product of intellectual work, examples: books, magazines and movies.
Think about the materials you have used in the past. How have you created opportunities for active engagement and interaction among your students?
I think that the materials already used have allowed me to experience what each student needs, it has been created from the perspective that they have become familiar with the English language, where I had the experience of using this material was with very young children from whom they want to learn and ask After all, the material allowed all the children to have fun, in addition to that, they learned a lot and they always liked attending the class because they felt comfortable in it, they learned and related to the new language.
How can teachers incorporate technology into their materials development process?
Today teachers must be trained and design a knowledge community based on TIC since it offers possibilities to reach a better educational level and helps a lot in the teaching process, its use tends to guide and motivate the student to build knowledge through the innovation of these technological tools.
What are some of the ethical considerations involved in materials development?
The development of materials aims to understand their expectations as promoters of educational growth, forming an organized material that involves the participation of all their students. Obligations, classroom activities and learning interests are known, the material is considered innovative and has been gaining importance in education, facilitating teaching. The materials promote self-learning and a socializing aspect, motivating the creative capacity of the student.
How can teachers ensure that their materials are aligned with curriculum standards?
Teachers must develop material according to the level in which the students are, they must also be well structured in a way that can be understood and where knowledge and skills are described for the students to achieve.
How can teachers contribute to the field of materials development?
Being participatory and innovating in teaching, creating materials where students can learn more easily, since implementing each one of these will contribute to a better performance and educational level, defining the materials "as the center of instruction and one of the most important influences." about what happens in the classroom” (Kitao, 1998, p. 1).
