Who are they?

Oasis was an English alternative rock band, formed in Manchester in 1990. Originally known as Rain (Spanish: La Lluvia). In its beginnings, the group was called The Rain, and was made up of vocalist Chris Hutton, guitarist Paul Arthurs, bassist Paul McGuigan and drummer Daniel Alexander. The original members of the band were: Liam Gallagher (vocals), Paul Arthurs on lead guitar, Paul McGuigan on bass and Tony McCarrol on drums and initially had the name: The Rain, later joining the band Liam's brother, Noel Gallagher, who thought The Rain was an awful name for a rock band, had already met the band Inspiral Carpets at a concert in Manchester.

Oasis

Beginnings of evolution

The talents of the Gallagher brothers fueled the rise of the band. They released their first single, titled Supersonic, in 1993, and it was received extremely well by critics and the public. The release of their debut LP, Definitely Maybe, was delayed until 1994, with the release of some previous singles in advance. The album couldn't have been better received: it reached number one on the UK charts and the group became constant front-runners in major British magazines. But it wasn't until their third single, 'Live Forever', that the band became known worldwide. This theme, about the invincibility of youth, has been considered an anthem for an entire generation. In addition, it was chosen as the best British song of all time, beating hits like Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.

Beginning of evolution

Following this success, drummer Tony McCarroll was fired and replaced by Alan White. In the midst of this change, Oasis releases their second album titled, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (nineteen ninety five). On this album we can find Wonderwall, the band's best-known song, which continues to play on radio stations around the world to this day. In addition, there is Champagne Supernova, considered by the specialized critics and the members of the group themselves, the best musical piece of the group.

Coldplay are a British rock band formed in London in 1997. They consist of vocalist and pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, drummer Will Champion and manager Phil Harvey. They initially met at University College London, calling themselves Big Fat Noises and changing to Starfish, before settling on the current name. Coldplay have explored many musical styles throughout their career, with their sound being considered alternative rock, alternative pop, pop rock, post-Britpop, soft rock, and pop. After winning a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2009, Martin jokingly stated in his acceptance speech that they were "limestone rock", in comparison to "hard rock". The extended plays released in 1998 and 1999 have characteristics of dream pop, setting them apart from future releases.

Their first studio album, Parachutes (2000), was described as "melodic pop" which combined "bits of distorted guitar riffs and swishing percussion", being "exquisitely dark and artistically abrasive". Berryman called it "a quiet, polite record", while Champion compared the lyrics to Lou Reed's "Perfect Day", as they are "quite moody" but with "twists that imply optimism", ultimately creating an album defined by the contrast between "beautiful and happy" messages and "really, really sad" sounds.
