Cyber crime is when criminals targets a computer, network, or device to hack, for profit. There are many types of cyber crimes, we will be talking about: 1. Phishing 2. Identity Theft 3. Malware 4. Spyware
Phishing is when criminals target people by using their email, phone, and text messages to pose as a legitimate institution to lure their targets into providing sensitive data.
Ransomware is when criminals install a software on a person's system that usually holds important information hostage until their demands are met.
Spyware is a type of malware that can hide on a person's device. Spyware secretly records information and tracks online activity. Sometimes spyware can access your camera and mic to watch and record
Malware (malicious software) is when software intrudes on a person's device and steals data, damages computers and systems. 7 different types of malware: - Virus - Worms - Trojan virus - Spyware - Adware - Ransomware - Fileless malware
A Trojan virus is a type of malware that invade computers disguised as real and operational programs. Trojan viruses get inside your system and can sit idly and wait for instructions or start attacking immediately to disable antivirus software and download malware.
Phishing is when criminals target people by using their email, phone, and text messages to pose as a legitimate institution to lure their targets into providing sensitive data.
How to help protect against Ransomware: - Invest in device protection programs - Create secure backups of your data that updates daily - Make sure systems and software's are up to date
How to prevent Spyware: -Use trusted antivirus software with anti-spyware and malware - Do not open suspicious email attachments - Do not open online pop-ups - Keep the system updated - Do not open links from texts from unknown numbers
How to protect against Malware: - Keep the software updated - Do not click on links or download anything from suspicious senders - Do not open email attachments or images from unknown senders - Do not click on pop-up windows to download software - Download antivirus software
How to prevent Trojan viruses: - Download legitimate, trustworthy anti-virus and anti-malware software. - Don't download a program that looks suspicious - Be careful with file sharing - Check the address bar when when downloading files or entering information
How to prevent a Phishing attempt: - Filter spam mails - Update browser settings to prevent fraudulent websites - Change passwords regularly - Report phishing attempts to banks and financial organizations - Change browsing habits
