His mother, Deborah Sue Phelps, is a middle school principal, while his father, Michael Fred Phelps, was retired Maryland state Trooper who played football in high school and college and tried out for the team now known as the Washington Commanders in the 1970s. Phelps began at the age of seven, influenced by his sister and as a way to channel his energy. After retiring in 2016, he said," The only reason I ever got in the water was because my mom wanted to learn to swim. My sister and I fell in love with the sport and decided to swim" (2017 at the Wayback Machine) . For example in the OG in Beijing Phelps set an Olympic record in the preliminary heats of 400 meter individual medley. Fun fact: He broke his previous record by 2s ! In this OG he won 8 gold medals Commenting for NBC, Phelps praised the Toulousan's historic performance live on air. "4′02′'50, huge! I'm impressed by his swim, my God. Jesse Owens was born on September 12, 1913, in Oakville, Alabama, and grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. From a young age, he showed exceptional talent in athletics. comes from a modest family of 11 children. He is nicknamed "Jesse" by his teacher who does not understand his accent when he pronounces his initials (JC). During his schooling, he discovered running. Thanks to his coach and his great discipline, he progressed quickly and started to break records in long and high jumps. A meeting with a former Olympic champion, Charlie Paddock, will make him want to participate in the Olympic Games. He attended Ohio State University, where he earned the nickname "Buckeye Bullet" because of his incredible speed. Despite facing racism and many difficulties, he persevered and became a sports star. He is considered as one of the first great black athlete.
JESSIE OWENS
Jesse Owens' achievements are remarkable. In 1935, at a university competition in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he broke three world records and tied a fourth in just 45 minutes. He set records in the long jump (8.13 meters), the 220-yard sprint (20.3 seconds), and the 220-yard low hurdles (22.6 seconds), and tied the record for the 100-yard dash (9.4 seconds). However, his most famous performance was at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Owens won four gold medals in the 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump, and 4x100 meter relay. His victories contradicted Hitler's racist ideas and made history. The significance of Owens' achievement has been felt for years and means different things to different people. It was not lost on Owens that in many ways he was treated better by the racists in Nazi Germany than he was in segregated America, allowing him to stay in the same hotels and meet other athletes. His achievements were barely recognized by his own government ("Although I wasn't invited to shake hands with Hitler, I wasn't invited to the White House to shake hands with the President either," he later said), and despite his efforts to find Profitable work. Owens became an important symbol of the fight for equality.Jesse Owens embodies the values of the Olympic Games: excellence, friendship, and respect. His pursuit of excellence is clear from his records and dedication despite the obstacles he faced. His friendship with athletes like German long jumper Luz Long shows true sportsmanship and international camaraderie. His dignity in the face of racism and political tensions highlights the importance of unity and mutual respect.Jesse Owens' legacy goes beyond his sports achievements. He remains a symbol of perseverance, equality, and the unifying power of sports. His story continues to inspire today, reminding us that the Olympic Games are not just a competition, but a celebration of human potential and the shared values that bring people together from all around the world.

The Olympic Games are based on three fundamental values. First excellence, which means doing the best we can. Then respect, for other people and rules, and finally friendship, between people all over the world thanks to sport. Mark Spitz is one of the greatest swimmers of all time. He was born in California in 1950. He moved with his family to Honolulu while he was a child, and he showed early swimming skills in the Hawaiian beaches. The family moved to Sacramento, California, where Spitz received his first swimming lessons. By the time Spitz was 10, he had already set 17 records for swimming in his age group. At 18, he participated at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games, where he won a silver medal for the 100-meter butterfly, a bronze for the 100-meter freestyle, and two gold medals as a member of relay teams, but his performance failed to meet his supporters’ high expectations.
MARK SPITZ
Spitz returned from the Olympics to enroll at Indiana University in Bloomington, which had a championship swim team. By the beginning of 1972, Spitz held 35 United States records and 23 world records. Again a favorite for the 1972 Munich Olympics, He did not disappoint, winning seven gold medals in eight days, and setting a world record in each of the four individual and three relay races that he entered. Mark Spitz is the perfect embodiment of the Olympic values. He represents excellence with his record-breaking performances. After Mexico City Games, he challenged himself; his hard work and training helped him to progress, and become the best during the Munich Games. In addition, his adherence to fair play, without cheating or drugs,in a true spirit of sportsmanship underlines his respect for sport and its rules. Finally, he encouraged a spirit of friendship between athletes from all competing nations, mainly during Munich Olympic Games, an event marked by tragedy when terrorists killed 11 members of the Olympics team.

Armand Duplantis, nicknamed Mondo Duplantis, is a Swedish-American pole vaulter. He is currently the best in his discipline and is considered by other practitioners as a phenomenon. After breaking his seventh world record at 6.24 meters a month ago in Xiamen, he is preparing to win his second Olympic Games on August 5th in Paris. At only 24 years old, he has already won everything: the European Championships twice outdoors, the first time at 18, the World Championships twice, the Tokyo Olympics, and finally took the world record from Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie (6.16) before breaking it six more times. It's not surprising when you know that his father had him start pole vaulting before he could walk. We also invite you to watch videos of a young Mondo Duplantis pole vaulting; it's very impressive. Lastly, Mondo Duplantis embodies the values of the Olympic Games because he exemplifies excellence in his discipline, has a deep respect for his competitors, officials, and his sport, is determined and perseverant, and is an inspiration for the youth!
