Racism can cause a lot of damage to both individuals and communities.

A Global issue

Introduction

As stated on the title slide Racism is prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by individual, community, or institution against a person on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typical one that is a minority or marganalized (Oxford Dictionary). Racism exist worldwide. Several events have occurred to foster racism in America and abroard. Some examples are:Ralph Yarl - shot and wounded in Kansas City, MOAhmaud Arbery - shot and killed in GeorgiaGeorge Floyd - murdered in Minneapolis, MN by police officersDaunte Wright - shot and killed by police officer in Brookyln Center, MNRayshard Brooks - killed by police in Atlanta, GADaniel Prude - died from asphyxia complications due to police actions in Rochester, NYBreonna Taylor - Killed by police officers in Louisville, KYVilla Rica Police Department - GeorgiaAfrican/Women - Ukraine, being treated inhumanely left homeless, push off trains that was designed to take them to safety, etc

Recent high-profile police killings of Persons of Color (POC) across the United States (US) continue to spark debates and protests about the enduring presence of systemic racism in policing (DeAngelis, 2021). Systemic racism refers to stereotypes, emotions, and practices that are reproduced across time and place to advantage one racialized group over others (Phelan & Link, 2015) and is prevelant throughtout the world (DeAngelis, 2021). As you read the article, think about why this behavior is on the rise.
