PUTU PIRING
Cultural Significance Putu Piring is a traditional dessert among the Singaporean Malay community. In the 1980s, the invention of special steam carts and stainless steel molds for making Putu Piring helped to popularize this street snack.
Ingredients/How it is made The dish is made by steaming rice flour and water. The filling is usually made of palm sugar (gula melaka) which adds a sweet and aromatic flavour to the dish.
Origin The name Putu Piring translates to "plate cake" in Malay, referring to its shape resembling a flat plate.
Taste Putu piring is often enjoyed as a snack or dessert. The combination of fluffy rice cake, gooey palm sugar filling, and fragrant coconut makes putu piring a delightful indulgence that showcases the rich culinary heritage of the Malay community.
