PUTU PIRING

Cultural Significance Putu Piring is a traditional dessert among the Singaporean Malay community. In the 1980s, the invention of special steam carts and stainless steel molds for making Putu Piring helped to popularize this street snack.

Ingredients/How it is made The dish is made by steaming rice flour and water. The filling is usually made of palm sugar (gula melaka) which adds a sweet and aromatic flavour to the dish.

Origin The name Putu Piring translates to "plate cake" in Malay, referring to its shape resembling a flat plate.
