Senior Team
Operations
The operations team is responsible for the logistics of the programme. They will organise your weekly training, respond to email enquiries and support you throughout your training year.
The senior team is accountable for the management and strategic direction of the programme as well as trainee assessment and curriculum design. They work closely with Tutors and the operations team.
Oskar Knight - Oskar joined Ark Teacher Training in 2021 and works primarily on our Early Career Teacher Programme in collaboration with Ambition Institute. What is your role at ATT? Ops. What is your favourite subject at school? History. Top tip for organisation? Have two "To-do" lists- A short one and a long one!
Shona Brown - Programme Delivery Manager What was your favourite subject at school? Geography and History. Top tip for organisation? Put deadlines in calender and use the ATT booklet.
Gemma Bellamy - Gemma joined Ark Teacher Training in 2023 and works primarily on organising our in-person training, supporting trainees with the apprenticeship aspects of the programme and organising second setting experiences. She also looks after the ATT operations inbox and replies to your questions. Your favourite subject at school? Drama. Top tip for organisation? Write things down as soon as they are told to you!
Maggie Sanchez-Gleason - Deputy Head of Ark Teacher Training What teaching roles have you had? - I was a teacher in a primary and secondary school for 12 years and an Assistant Principal and Principal in an all-through school in Boston, MA. What is your favourite aspect of teaching? - The 'light-bulb' moment when students get a concept that you have taught and the joy it brings to them to be able to do it and apply it across multiple contexts. Top tip for summer school? - Be brave and give practice your all... it will have such a positive impact in your classroom and on your pupils... and be aware that we will always the kindly 'pushing the practice not the person', so leave your ego at the door! :)
Amy Walters - Deputy Head of Ark Teacher Training What teaching roles have you had? Head of English, ITT Curriculum Lead, Assistant Principal - Curriculum & Literacy, Professional Studies/English tutor. What is your favourite aspect of teaching? Seeing students' confidence in and love of the subject grow, and witnessing those 'lightbulb' moments. Top tip for summer school? With all professional development opportunities, the more you put into them, the more you get out. Come to each session ready to get stuck in and make the most of it!
Leila MacTavish - Head of Ark Teacher Training What teaching roles have you had? I started as a Citizenship Teacher and ended mainly teaching Philosophy and Sociology A-Levels. I have always been passionate about supporting and developing new teachers, and set up the teacher training programme for Future Academies, as well as having worked at the Institute of Education, UCL. My last school based job was Deputy Head of Highbury Grove, a large, challenging, secondary in Islington. What is your favourite aspect of teaching? I love making children's heads hurt because they are thinking so hard! It is also brilliant watching teenagers begin to understand the society we live in, and develop confidence as activve members of their communities. Top tip for summer school? Enjoy yourself! You are at the beginning of an amazing, challenging and fascinating career.
Isabel Instone - Secondary Curriculum Lead What teaching roles have you had? Most recently head of science What is your favourite aspect of teaching? Working with pupils! Top tip for summer school? Keep practising!
Shapa Alom - Deputy Head of Ark Teacher Training What teaching roles have you had? Assistant Head of KS1, Literacy lead for the whole school, EYFS lead. What is your favourite aspect of teaching? Planning lessons and observing pupil progress and growth as individuals. Top tip for summer school? Complete the independent preparation in the given window to be fully prepared for the live sessions.
Ryan Kendall - Primary Curriculum Lead What teaching roles have you had? Class Teacher, Advanced Skills Teacher, Assessment Lead, Lead Practitioner for Teaching and Learning, Specialist Leader of Education, Deputy Headteacher, Headteacher What is your favourite aspect of teaching? Identifying what an excellent outcome can look/sound like with children by sharing examples of work from children in previous years and unpicking how they achieved it. Top tip for summer school?
