Teaching Strategies are Appropriate for Coaching the Adult Learner
Home
Andragogy are methods to teach adults and pedagogy are methods to teach children. For example, with pedagogy, younger children rely on others to decide what is important and what needs to be learned. Whereas with andragogy, adults decide what information is relevant enough to learn.
Differences of Andragogy and Pedagogy
Home
Knowing the differences between andragogy and pedagogy is significant on adult education. It is significant because adults learn different than children. If an instructional coach is not well-informed, they are essentially wasting both parties’ time. Adult learners want to retain information that will be beneficial to them and that it is fast. If taught the way children learn, adults are going to find presentations or trainings too long and unnecessary at their level of expertise.
The Significance on Adult Education
Home
- Adults need to be involved in the planning and evaluation of their instruction.
- Adult learning is problem-centered rather than content-oriented.
