Now that we have looked at a couple definitions for Social Responsibility, it is important that you analyze which elements these definitions have in common, as well as carefully consider if there are any elements you would like to add as you settle on a definition that applies to the degree you are studying and which will, eventually, become your profession. We have seen that Social Responsibility is a voluntary commitment, an awareness, an evaluation and a search to mitigate the impacts of the actions of people, organizations and governments. Social responsibility bases its actions on three fundamental lines: - Economic - Social - Environmental
Social Responsibility
Social Responsibility is, therefore, the search for long-term social development in order to reach a common good. The actions carried out must be linked to the organization's core business. Many people confuse Social Responsibility with social actions, also known as philanthropic actions. In the early 20th century, big businessmen started taking part in this type of actions as a way to give back to society for their profits. Some examples of these actions were donations, the construction of cultural spaces, among others, as we will see later on. Hence the confusion between the two terms.
